What the hell (and I can't believe I'm responding) does that have to do with your OP?
Do foreigners earn as much as Koreans in a similar position with similar education and experience? Do most foreigners earn equal salary and benefits to a "regular employee?"
The point is that foreigners have a difficult time earning what a Korean would earn if the Korean went to a internationally recognized university. And what can foreigners do about it? Can foreigners appeal to a union or other organization (eg, the Local Labour Board) for help? Does your Korean boss, Korean dean, or Korean president (Korean owner) take care to follow the laws that apply to you and the other employees? |
Why do you honestly care?
Seriously, I read once you saying you work at a university. If it is anything like a high school, the Koreans are doing bucketloads of paper work that no foreigner will ever have to do.
If by some miracle they do make more cash than you, are you doing more or less work than them?
And if you are doing more, who put the gun to your head and made you come to Korea, sign a contract, and then post crappy threads about how Koreans make more than we do. |

phaedrus,
Jesus man get your stories straight.....
Here you talk as if you were currently working in Korea and in another post from the same day you say you are happy to be back in Canada and asking about pvts in Canada..... |
Sometimes I sound contradictory. Sometimes it's for fun on my part, sometimes you have to imagine I might travel around a lot and piece together the appropriate timeline. Sometimes it's because I change my mind about what to do. Don't expect "happy doing privates in Canada" next September. |

Just a few threads (many contradictory) highlighting Real Reality's obsession with posting monthly income in Korea. There are more, but I don't have time to post them all. I think he skipped January, because he was on vacation in Canada or something.
I find it interesting that they occur every month at about the same time. Are you on a time-table here, or is this when you get paid, RR? Do you get so upset with your salary that you want to "get even" by posting on Dave's every month?
Check these virtually identical threads out:

Derrek...
That's my point.
I may seem like a grumpy old man sometimes, but I am getting near a point where ESLCafe is gonna get nuked off my favorites list. There just too many crappy posts lately. |

You're not old.. just grumpy. haaaha
You know, at 34 (Korean age), I feel like a really old man. Especially since my students are 16 to 18, but look like they are 13.
A certain song by "The Police" rings through my mind sometimes....
"Young teacher.... the subject.....(blah, blah)... this girl is HALF HIS AGE!"
Luckily, since they do look like 12, it's not a problem. |

I teach with a salary of 2.2 million per month.
Salary combined with all the benefits I get brings me to about 40 million per year. Convert this to Canadian and factor in the tax savings and I have 60,000 Canadian equivalent per year.
My personal income just about matches the Korean household average, but my wife doesn't have to lift a finger. I'm young, I'd be living at home if I was Korean. |
40 million Korean won =45 781 Canadian. Are you saying that if you made $60,000 Canadian, that after taxes you would be making the same there as here? Just the way you put it, seems a little unclear |

Yes, approximately. I think my potential for savings here is greater than if I was back in Canada. |

Why should the only soure of Info be the hogwon propaganda that YBM , corrupt head teachers and dishonest recruiters tell you.
I appreciate what RR says. He provides an alternative to the hogwon propaganda that is so prevailent on this board. |

Joo Rip Gwa Rhhee,
Thank you for your support.
I suppose I may have posted the income articles and the foreign professors article too many times. However, I hope that the issues of fair pay, good benefits, and better working conditions will continue to be posted on Dave's boards.
Only a month ago up in Incheon, numerous teachers were arrested and deported on the spot who worked for an Education Department camp - others got large fines - it is worth adding the mistake in the paper work was the Education departments, but it was the foreigners who suffered.

Derrek,
I guess I posted them when I saw them in the Internet. I wish I could find official salary scales for foreign teachers and foreign professors.
Where are the salary scales for foreign employees? Are there salary scales for foreign teachers? If you have any for Korean colleges or universites salary scales, please post them. |
