| The thing that jumps out is that the 80's and 90's as well as the 00's, all decades noted for deregulation, tax cuts and trickle down theory, were the lowest performing decades. Hmmm. |
Yes, government interference is to blame. The government enabled corporatocracy gets more powerful each year, and the corruption is just thrown in our faces (ya-ta boy loves it). Each administration outdoes the last. Obama and his banker cronies are the worst yet. |

| Every decade gets a nickname, for good or ill. The cleverest suggestion I've seen for the recently ended one is The Naughties, but I doubt it catches on. |
It's The Noughties.

Not in Korea he's not.

| I saw the Madmen producers discuss their show once, while killing time. They talked about its beginning in 1960, which they said was the last year of the 1950s, |
The 50's extended all through 1963, the 60's beginning only in February 1964 with the arrival of The Beatles. The 70's however did begin in January 1970 when The Beatles broke up, and Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison had died. |

| Ah, actually a lot of people made this point. Please explain to me when the year "0" was. It did not exist. A ten year old child is in his 11th year of life.... Do the math. |
In the first year of a baby's life that baby is 0 years old.
But, in Korea he comes out 1. |

And rightfully so. The time spent swimming around in daddy's boxer shorts should count for something. |

| Bush's defenders [...] |
Who are they? Obama is a worthless excuse for a president, selling out his country to criminal bankers, and this is common knowledge, but I don't seen anyone defending Bush at this point. |
Obama is often criticized for being a disappointing weakling (pretty much how I feel to date). Anyone wanna take a stab at guessing one "momentous" initiative he undertakes before his four years are up?
(please, nobody mention health care reform) |
He'll unionize the TSA? Hmm, what else.. Maybe start a war with Yemen (well, come close to declaring the war that has kinda already started). Um, he'll try and fail to legalize 12 million new Dem voters. And then he'll find a few dozen innovative ways to transfer money from the rotting carcass of the middle class to his hedge fund buddies after giving a Soaring Speech about social justice?
A career in community organizing (shakedowns) apparently doesn't develop a useful set of skills. |

Lest we get too America-centered:
Fruitful Decade for Many in the World
"Putting aside the United States, which ranks third, the four most populous countries are China, India, Indonesia and Brazil, accounting for more than 40 percent of the worlds people. And all four have made great strides. Indonesia had solid economic growth during the entire decade, mostly in the 5 to 6 percent annual range. That came after its very turbulent 1990s, marked by a disastrous financial crisis and plummeting standards of living.
Brazil also had a consistently good decade, with growth at times exceeding 5 percent a year. There is lots of talk that the country has finally turned the corner, and, within its borders, there is major worry that its currency is too strong a problem that many other countries would envy.
Elsewhere in South America, Colombia and Peru have made enormous progress and Chile is on the verge of becoming a developed country; it will soon be joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development."

He's President of the United States now. Give the man a break, he's the classic Naughties President: all face, little substance. Just because seducing the electorate doesn't lead to (y)our interests doesn't mean that it isn't a useful skill. |
