Those pansy sea shepherd guys look like wanna be commandos in their black skin tight suits and that batman like weak sea ship.
I'm fully on the Japanese whalers side on this one. If it weren't for the outcry this would be a non-issue and there would only be a few boats hunting whales. But because of wackos like the sea shepherds, you attract a bunch of over-patriotic right-wing Japanese that will support the whalers to the end, and more boats hoping to make a quick buck. They should have read up on asian culture before attacking the whalers.
Also, why is it they don't do the same with the Norwegians?
And whales do taste good. |

So then what will it take, threatening to nuke them all over again? This time I just might support it. |

You may not agree with the tactics of the protesters, but do any of you have any sympathy for the actual whales?
Fair enough Minke Whales have recovered somewhat due to Australian conservation efforts and as far as I know they are no longer endangered.
But the Japanese are also targetting several other species which are endangered or for which there is no definite information available.
In this day and age there really is no need to eat whales.
The japanese are decades behind in environmentalist thinking. The world has moved on from the mass plunder and unsustainable exploitation of the 19th century. But Japan has some of the most over-fished and ecologically damaged waters on earth. Its something of an Asian problem: there is no respect for or understanding of the natural world.. and a lot of unecessary cruelty to other creatures. |

I do, definitely, if the animals suffer. Don't get me started on dolphins.
This is a good book. Makes a case for not eating whales that isn't Westerncentric. I'd be in favor of introducing rights to certain other living beings in a nonarbitrary way - the right to live and be left alone.

Without addressing the truth or otherwise of the claim, it also isn't necessary - in this day and age of electricity - to light the room with candles. But it's still nice to do. |

Don't get me wrong, I would have no qualms about hunting whales if the following could be reliably verified:
a) The species in question had a large and viable population that would in no way be threatened by a limited and controlled catch.
b) The meat and other products was needed and would not be wasted.
c) With regards to scientific research: that such research was definitely needed for important purposes.
But none of the above applies to what the Japanese are doing. They're killing whales that are either definitely endangered or whose status is unclear/ contested. The meat they get remains largely unsold, it goes to waste. The scientific research they claim is entrely unecessary: it is already well-established "what Fin Whales eat." To boot, they do not actually need to eat whalemeat- its not as if they're starving and have no access to a different diet.
They're continuing the killing purely for nationalistic reasons- an act of macho defiance. "We lost WW2 but nobody can tell us to not kill whales". In other words, whaling exists as the final last stand of Japanese macho maleness. |

Good one. If it were some Amazon tribe hunting whales, you would be saying we should respect their unique culture. |
