Chlo Sevigny just won a Golden Globe for her role as Nicolette Grant! Mad Men beat out BL for best tv drama series--I was torn which to root for, they're both my favorite. I'm missing tonight's show because Zippy took my cable box. But I'll catch it on On Demand tomorrow when he puts it back.

I tried watching the first season of mad men but I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen and overall I found it to be a really boring show. Is the 2nd or 3rd season better?

The show revolves around an ad agency, Sterling Cooper, where Donald Draper (Jon Hamm) is the creative genius. But his fooling around is always prevalent to the plot, and so is everyone else's.

The hook to Mad Men is that Don Draper really isn't Don Draper. He has a mysterious past involving the Korean War where he stole the Don Draper identity, along with odd bits and pieces of the past he's trying to forget. Three or four people come to find this out over the first three seasons with storylines of blackmail, suicide, and betrayal. But despite it all, Don's decent side shines thru.

Again, like BL, I like it for the historical context. It's littered with references to actual events, not to mention the products they're promoting including Hilton Hotels. But maybe you had to be alive in the 60's to appreciate it? The smoking, the drinking day and night, the sexcapades... the life of Madison Avenue advertising and the cozy homes and kids tucked away in the burbs. This is NOT the world of June and Ward Cleaver.

Season 3 ended with Sterling Cooper (the agency founded by Bert Cooper and Roger Sterling's father) being sold out from under them and the corporate shenanigans they pull to strike out on their own--again.

So what's up with JJ not having fingernails? Any one figure that out yet?

I was wondering that too. Seems like there was something going on at the dinner table that I didn't understand. I just saw the 2nd episode for the first time last night.

On another subject, I like the new theme song and credits a lot better. I never cared for the beach boys.

When JJ was helping himself to a second helping of corn-on-the-cob, Margene was taking notice of his hands. Then she cornered Barb in the kitchen to tell her about his not having fingernails. Weird, eh?

Did you notice that huge pile of lemons on the counter in one shot? They're making lemonade. Very Happy

I keep looking for the green jello Mormons are supposed to be famous for.

So Bill's gonna take the political low road by lying to get into office, then by taking the misdemeanor charges and going public, will make it all right...

Interesting 'lost boys' theme going, with Ben leaving after the blowup with Marjene's kiss and an anonymous lost boy being killed in the city during Bill's run at the nominating convention. Bill has some 'splaining to do.

Tommy (Adam Beach) introduces Barb to his sweat lodge after a particularly hectic night at the casino. And the closing theme is "Spirit In the Sky".

Next week's preview shows Ana coming back into the picture.

Still no clue what JJ not having fingernails signifies. Something satanic?

But I spotted the actor who plays the trustee/Alby's gay lover, Dale, on "How I Met Your Mother". He's Robin's co-anchor, Don (no pants), at the tv station.

Ana is definitely back with a big surprise, couple of them.

Looks like Lois, Frank, Ben, Frank's other wife, and the slimebag dealer are in the hands of the Greens for poaching (purchasing) birds on their turf in Mexico. This'll be nasty.

Alby sets up a love shack but Laura's onto his secret life. But that's come to a nasty end too. We won't be seeing more of Dale, his guest-starring time on Big Love is finito. He gave a fine performance though while it lasted. His cry acting is almost as good as Amanda Seyfreid's, who actually didn't cry once in this episode.

Season 4 is over. Only 9 episodes. Ends with them "coming out." I wonder how many more seasons there will be, since opening up to the public seems like kind of a climax to the show.

From checking out IMDB it looks like there's a lot of controversy over this season and people saying it's unrealistic. The whole thing with the Greens was kind of implausible, that they were able to escape so easily in the end. It was cool with Lois chopping off the man's arm, but it does seem strange that a woman in her 70s could do that.

I don't think it was a bad season though. Over awfully quick though.

It was an awfully quick season. Helped get me through the winter though!

HBO's website features full episodes, but I think you have to register first. (Bonus: You can watch The Pacific there too)

Gonna miss Sarah, but I guess Seyfreid is on to bigger (and hopefully better) things. She a real cutie pie and did a fine job in Mama Mia. But let's face it, turning on the waterworks is her real forte.

Oh well, the high school sweeties from Glee will be back in a few weeks for Season 1 Part deux. That's pure fun. Smile

This season started off fairly strong, but got really weak at points. That hole arm chopping thing made me shake my head.
