hey "lost at sea"

what recruiter did you go with?

My first tour of Korea I used HandsKorea, and lesson learned. I will never speak to them again Very Happy

Second tour I didn't use a recruiter really... actually a recruiter hooked me up with a manager at a company and then the manager basically ignored the recruiter and I dealt with the manger one on one and we figured out a job for me.

Posting on this old thread because I wanted to share my BAD experience with HandS Korea. They are definitely in the top three worst recruiters I have dealt with (I contacted 25+)

At first, the person from HandS Korea acted professionally and seemed helpful. He was a non-Korean, by the way (I'm not sure exactly where he is from, it's just his full name that's not Korean). His first two emails were basic cut-and-paste: welcome to HandS Korea, here's some basic information, these are the documents I need from you, etc. After that, he dropped off the face of the planet. He didn't respond to any of my emails. It's actually funny because in his first email to me he said that communication is important and I should email him whenever I need to. But he ignored all of my emails. A month and a half later, he finally emails me back, out of the blue and said that I should sending so many emails and criticizing him (I'm sugar coating this, dude had some harsh words for me). For the record, I sent him a total of FIVE emails in a month, and all of those emails were asking for an update. I did NOT criticize him in any way. I basically said, "Hello, I was just wondering if I can get updated on the process. Do you currently have any job listings? Thank you." That's it.

I stopped trying to contact him two weeks before that. And all of my emails were short, little polite emails asking for updates/confirmation that he has read my email that had all my documents attached to it.

I was shocked and I thought maybe he was replying to someone else but sent me the email by accident. But no, he thought my emails were "unprofessional" and was a form of harassment ( Laughing ). If the emails I sent were considered rude then I don't know how he would react to people who were actually rude to him. He sounded like a big baby, actually.

I tried to clarify what part in which email(s) were "rude" but he never responded. He probably realized that there was nothing rude about my emails and he didn't want to admit that he was wrong.

TLDR; Seems good at first, but is actually a little 13 year old brat in disguise.

In searching for this thread to post a review, I read on another thread that someone from HandS Korea forged a teacher's signature on a contract and the name of the school on the contract is different from the one the teacher was hired for. That's messed up, right there.

I have this big dream of going to teach in Korean public schools. But under EPIK's current rules, I hit problems.

*One recruiter I didn't like was Anna Jeom. She told me about hagwon jobs she had then said I couldn't apply to the ones I wanted. Worknplay sent my EPIK application in 2009 and it was really incomplete so I failed the interview with EPIK.

*I thought Korvia Consulting was doing a great job but I decided not to go to Korea that time.

Be careful about recruiters who try to sweet talk you into going to a shady school before you have chacked out the school and spoken to other western staff at that branch.
