I think it's funny as heck...

ANYONE who starts destroying someone else's property like that SHOULD be hauled away -- and I don't care who does it. And insofar as Korean law works, as I understand it, it was totally find that they dragged his butt in.

Sorry all of you proud Canadians are getting your undies all in a bundle, but the guy was a VANDAL, right?

By the way, who do you think the Korean police would side with? He was destroying Korean property.

Do you think the Koreans are going to stand up and say, "Oh, sorry.... we're letting you go because you are Canadian?"

Hahahahhahhahaa....

And so you came to Korea?

Sorry Derrek but this proud Canadian doesn't have his undies in a bundle or a knot (sorry to burst your bubble). If this guy was an @$$ then I have no sympathy for him being tossed in the clink and left to rot for a while.

Indeed. Although I should qualify that statement. After a couple years, I felt like I had something to contribute to the American system. Korean politics is way too alien for me and I probably will never feel like I can make a contribution. In the USA you're also swept away by the tremendous power voters have at the ballot box. Every election from civic to federal features half a dozen mini referendums on a wide range of issue. There's a great system of direct democracy that makes you wish you could partake in it.

I don't know, the two of us didn't get past the ass sniffing stage. He was too busy being hauled off to tell me anything more than he's an avid fly fisherman and he enjoys going to petting zoo's in his spare time.

Uhhhmmmm, my undies seem to be right where they belong - hugging my nuts like a sack of potatos in a hammock & wedged between my cheeks just the way I like it. I haven't seen any replies bemoaning the incident. When it occured, quite honestly all I really thought was "thank god its not me." Canadian, American, Brit...meh, means nothing to me.

This is a joke, isn't it?

Umm..no joke. You may also add, "and then sodomized his vandalizing ass in proud NYPD broomstick-a-la-Haitian-immigrant fashion."

Funny when he is sober. Nightmare when he is drunk.

A lot of foreigners do enlist in the US armed forces.

True. Actually it's a pretty huge percentage. 25% at least. But I believe you have to be a greencard holder (ie permanent resident). You can't just go there on a tourist visa, h1b, etc and enlist. The advantage of being a greencard holder and signing on is the rather long wait to become a citizen is shaved off by a couple years. Some people can't wait to own a gun in America, I guess. Actually, as a Canadian who worked in the USA on an H1B, I missed being able to vote. I didn't like living in a place where I couldn't exercise something as basic as a vote.

Interestingly, foreign nationals in the US military are also restricted to enlisted ranks.

He's pretty funny when drunk too.. can't recall seeing him sober.. hmm..

The last few times he's had a habit of wearing facial paint and draping himself in a Korean flag.. entertaining..

He took huge offense to me when a friend of mine asked him to un-hang a Korean flag in a bar because it had his blood on it. I agreed with my friend and Patrick lost the plot. We just said it wasn't the most respectful of things he could have done. He then decided that we didn't respect his blood.

There are a few sandwiches missing from that picnic hamper.

Where's he get that flag from? Seems like there a couple times he's been wearing that around. He must get that somewhere in Itaewon each time. I recall seeing him with it on a couple different occassions in Seoul Pub, Geckos, Debut, Space Club..

I think he may have pinched one from the UN Bar once but returned it when he finally was able to get someone to tell him where he'd got it from.
