Otis Redding - These Arms of Mine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33z__6Qe95o

Sorry about the video, it's a bit racy for my tastes, well for this song at least.

And the theme song for any adoptee (me!)/orphan/child of misfortune- Love Child

Diana Ross & the Supremes were nice. Maybe toooooo nice. Probably why they got played on the radio more than:

'Baby, I Love You'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbbRkHazUIg&feature=related

'Be My Baby'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCUO7F2xjzw

And then there was:

I always thought this was the group that taught white girls how to move those hips. Very Happy

And then there was the Carole King classic:

You're preaching to the choir, here. I'm en route to Korea because my plans to find wealth and fame by playing piano for silent films fell through. Stupid talkies...

How did I not know about this Rosenberg guy? Scary chops.

Sonny & Brownie is a fine album indeed along the blues vein. Very hard not to have a smiley day if you kick it off with their version of People Get Ready.

Silents are my *thing*! Broken Blossoms with Lillian Gish and Richard Barthelmess is one of my favorite movies. Actually, I think in my top 20 movies at least 5 are silents. The acting was superb and the personalities were amazing back then. Ahhh.

You should see what I am getting married in. I have a calf-length cream-colored dress that is tiered lace. I made a pearl necklace with a vintage art-deco diamond clasp. I have a hat from the 1920s that is a widow's peak, cream-colored, with a little blusher veil and a big cream feather. I have long, cream leather gloves with pearl buttons, and wedge shoes in a 1930s fashion. And to finish it off, a little beaded purse. If it's cold enough, I have an old fur coat that I want to wear.

Oh screw it: I'll just post pics. The dress is being altered right now, otherwise I'd take a better pic of it. The pic that shows the whole dress is not an accurate pic as the last 4 layers of lace will be cut off, and it will be taken in, 'cause I'm kinda little and only 5 feet tall! Smile

Aformentioned Herbie Hancock. Love that Headhunters album.

Roy Ayers is a favorite of mine too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_c0AEh6K7g <<<<------That's a track.

Yes, Headhunter rocks - got that on vinyl back home. Love Roy Ayers too, 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' is a classic.

On a related note, have just found out about the DJ Soulscape 'Sound of Seoul' project. Apparently there was a funk/soul/boogie scene in Seoul in the 1970s before the military regime cracked down on it. DJ Soulscape has released some mix CDs of the music and there was a live gig last year featuring him and some live acts. You can see it here

I think I need to track those CDs down ...

"So You're Leaving" off of Let's Stay Together by Marvin Gaye is, without a doubt, the most note-perfect song every recorded.

Oh jeez, how embarassing. I knew that, of course. My apologies to the good Reverend....

I was listening to a horrendous remix of "What's Going On" while I was typing. Bad input affected my output.

The Stax-Volt singles('59-'6Cool torrent floating around the interwebs is worth checking out for those not disinclined to 'sharing' 0s and 1s. As is the Chess story ('47-'75). Those two have a ton of good songs. All killer, no filler.
