Childhood, yeah, my neighborhood became that. Adult years, certainly haven't been in the worst parts of the cities, but not exactly affluent either. Public housing is presently behind my current residence. Good security? As in alarm systems and the like? Nope. |

Any country where there are more guns than people is dangerous for ALL people! It doesn't help that the average I.Q in the states and level of education is at an all time low. But that's another thread.

Strange, crime and murder rates have been on decline for over a decade. Rates are similar in 2008 to the 1970s.
If guns increased crime in the 80s and 90s (according to people who believe that guns use dark voodoo to make human beings obey their bidding), then that can only mean...
Those dang awful scawwy guns done gone and lowered the crime rate!

Point taken. However, I have noticed this in the gun-free countries I have lived in: When an angry or criminal person has a trigger to pull they tend to be more aggressive than those who are unarmed and want to commit a crime. For instance, you don't go into a market and wave your finger demanding money. You would most likely taste a baseball bat. In addition, if you have a serious issue with me where you would consider killing me, again pulling the trigger is less messy for the perpetrator than a face to face encounter. That's the reason you'll never find me in certain middle eastern countries. If you have a problem with me because of my skin color, you don't get to shoot me from a rooftop across the street. Approach me, face to face, and attack. Or better yet, let's get naked and climb down into a pit together to "discuss" your issues. Whoever comes out was "right". This calls for a different kind of stones, as opposed to those necessary to pull a trigger from a distance. If guns were readily available and prevelant in Korea, do you think murder rates would change? It's always tougher when you have to "step up" to get dirty. Most, it seems, prefer to get nasty from a distance. Just sayin".

Thanks for the chuckle. I am guessing he was referring to the level of USED intelligence is at an all time low. People are actually getting more ignorant.
I am not American, but I have read a lot of educational books and articles put out by American experts on education and various school districts. In some areas, education seems to be doing great, but overall it seems to be failing the kids.
I think Canada is doing a slightly better job, but we too are failing the kids. Kids are getting away with way too much. They need boundaries and discipline. They also need more OPTIONS. Not everyone was born to sit in a class for 8hrs a day and study. Not everyone was born to go to college or university. Why continue with the corporate model of education?
I am guessing in the case of America, it keeps the masses under control and it keeps the lower end of society "in their place". Imagine if they got the education they really deserve that teaches them to think critically and evaluate things before choosing a side: they would see right through politicians and all the BS the government does on a day to day basis. |
