We all know God causes earthquakes and tsunamis to express His displeasure with particular populations. Ever wonder why San Francisco gets a lot of earthquakes? Hmm, why did a tsunami devestate a lot of Thailand? Katrina hit New orleans...why? And Pat robertson pointed out why the Haiti earthquake occured. Duh.

Well, He can do what he wants, as long as it isn't to increase taxes.

I am amazed at the sheep who will just believe science on faith. C'mon y'all. Think for yourselves, like this:

So, to keep the mods happy, let's stay away from the "R" word--Religion--, though there are important connections.

It's a total embarrassment that this idiot thinks that earthquakes are caused by climate change. Unbelievable. She's clearly jumping on the bandwagon, without any real knowledge of geology or the earth in general. It's a disgrace. Earthquakes are caused by tectonic movements that humans have no influence over and tsunamis occur directly due to these tectonic movements. What a moron.

Glaciers are heavy, they push down on plates. When they melt the weight is gone and the plate can shift, when this happens earthquakes occur

Earthquakes can possibly be caused by global warming, however only in very particular areas under particular situations

I think to outright disagree with the idea that climate change affects tectonics is a bit naive.

Not to say it is necessarily incorrect, but there can easily be many explanations as to why this is true. No less than there are to say it is false.

I can't remember specifically, as I never thoroughly delved into this subject, but I remember reading about some outside influence on the earth, from cosmic rays, radioactive waves from the beginning of the Universe, the sun and the moon etc, all of which may have tiny to drastic affects on this planets tectonics. Perhaps the conditioning we have on this planet has allowed more of their affects to be noticed. I don't actually know, just a musing.

There's also the ideas of magnetic shifts and how we are still in an ice age, currently approaching the end. Which in turn makes glaciers weigh less, allowing tectonics to move more.

Yeah man, dumping tons and tons of thermal energy and previously sequestered gasses into a closed system totally wouldn't increase the overall energy of said system!

Every scientist is a lying fag! They should read Fox News to get the REAL American truth!

Closed system in terms of matter? Yes..almost. Very little matter enters Earth's System (think meteorites) and very little leaves (think solar winds nip away small bits of our atmosphere, thank you magnetic field).

Closed system in terms of energy? No, we only have to look to the sun to see a transfer of energy.

And if you were being sarcastic, then my bad.

The Earth's sphere is somewhat flattened at the South due to the weight of the Antarctica rock. However the whole ice upon it and the rock itself would have to suddenly disappear for there to be any tectonic changes.

The weather is a very thin membrane - it doesn't have any affect on tectonic plates.

What is is with politicians speaking nonsense? What is it with Palin, why is she still heard?

i fear someday the world will literally burst into flames, and people like radius will be screaming, "this isn't our fault!!! this happens all over the universe!!!"

I think the 8.1 in Samoa from last September is pretty relevant too, considering the magnitude.

ill bet you the next one strikes in baja california...
