Is there some rule somewhere that states that in team sports, all members of the team must be of equal importance? I'd say a baseball pitcher is at least as important as a hockey goalie, probably more so. Look at the Royals this year. They were terrible but could still beat anyone when Greinke was on the mound. But who cares? Team sports don't need the Handicapper General coming around and making all members equal. |

Well for the record, I hate baseball with that as one of the reasons. you are right though, it is not a requirement. I personally like more of a balance in player/position importance. they don't have to be equal and sometimes as styles change their value can change, but I like a little balance. It gives more of an element of strategy to a game imo. |

Well, if that's your preference, then that's all well and good, but I'm not sure about there being "more an element of strategy to a game" when the players are more equally important. Consider checkers and chess. In one game, the pieces are of equal abilities (unless one gets "kinged") In the other game, different pieces have different roles and very different levels of power. The queen is far and away the most powerful piece on the board. But I would say chess involves a lot more strategy than checkers. I know, board games are not the same as sports, but I'm just making the point that I don't see why there would be less strategy involved in a team sport just because the players involved are not of equal value. |

All the pieces in Go are worth the same but it is thought by some to be the ultimate game of strategy.

We did get a gold in hockey.
Oh wait, that was the women's team. Why is it when our amateurs get a gold it is not good enough?
Since our men's team is filled with millionaires, I don't see the same validation required of them to win a gold as our women's hockey team.
With that being said, I am still rooting for our men's team. Currently the game is in overtime. |

We were #3 for overall medals, #1 for gold, and #2 if you do the point system. That being where gold are worth more points.
So I'd say we owned the podium as much as we possibly could.

It was a massive priority for Canada though. Germany, for example....I'm pretty sure they would trade every medal won for another world cup. |
