I was always surprised by the number of teachers in my high school in Canada that married or had affairs with their female high school students.
Maybe in Japan/Korea/parts o asia there's not so much of a freak out about a student marrying a teacher because of the built in cultural respect. By way of example, few people would poo poo a 36 year old doctor marrying his 18 year old receptionist. Most would think "whoa... good catch, girl!" |
Sadly, if he were a 36 year-old Janitor, he's be called a pervert by many. |

A few days ago in Gangwon province, a 15-year-old girl reported her teacher to the police for alleged sexual harassment. According to her testimony to police, the 46-year old male physical education teacher took her to a storage room and kissed and fondled her. The teacher, when called in by police, confessed to most of the girl's claims and told the girl's parents that he would transfer to another school, according to police. The local education office, however, is discussing how to punish the teacher after they were informed by police.

WHY aren't they firing these teachers? Like seriously, kissing and fondling a teenage girl, and you will "transfer" to another school? WTF is with that? |

Just curious: what exactly is an acceptable age difference? I had an outstanding relationship with someone 10 years my senior- I rate her as one of the best people I've known.
I'm 31 now, and am getting rather close with an 18 year old uni student. Is this acceptable do you think???? I mean she's a uni student, not someone I teach, and we met in a bar. |

She must be 18 western age if she can go to the bar. 18 Korean age means that she might only be 16. That could be a problem, not sure about Korean laws.
18 is old enough. Mental maturity is what counts. |

Check her ID. Alot of High School girls go to bars looking to meet foreigners out of curiousity. That is what some of my former students told me. I know two girls from my class who used to go to Itaewon looking to meet guys. They were 18 and 16 years old.
Check out her ID to be on the safe side. If not, don't say you haven't been warned. |

Yes, check her ID.
When I first got to Korea many moons ago, I met a girl who looked 18-20ish, but turned out to be 17 KOREAN age. She's very Mormon, so fortunately thinks didn't get out of hand.
Now she's 21 Korean age, and we still chat from time to time. Nice girl, just a pity she was too young and too conservative... |

| Ok. But if she's turning 18 in 6,7 months time, I'm going to hang around. |

This is the rapier we all know and love
FYI I am pretty sure a GI was banging one of my old high school students last year...BEFORE she turned 18 US age.
Not much I could do as I had no proof at the time. She told me at her graduation. My face: |
