BBQ, Nene, Jang Mo Nim and Hot Sun Chickens are all superior fried chicken options to KFC. KFC delivers on the burger front though. Except there is no original colonel's choice burgers at my local K- Fry. Good one Korea. |
+1
I never understood why KFC is so popular. In Korea, it costs twice as much as Popeyes or any other fried chicken and tastes considerably worse. In the states, I forget how much it costs, but the chicken at any supermarket deli beats it hands down. |
I don't understand the KFC hate. I distinctly remember Albertson's/Safeway/Vons chicken tasting like s*** and enjoying KFC (at least back home in Cali--haven't bothered to try it in Korea) on occassion many years ago. I even went to that famous Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles joint, I'll still take KFC. Is that that bad here/outside California? |

I'd say KFC Korea is a lower quality than the KFC I've had in Europe and N. America........especially the trimming of the chicken pieces themselves.....KFC Korea seem to leave on at lot of the non-meat bits. That stuff is all trimmed off in the west.
Plus, the meat seemed a bit whiter in the west to my memory.....
Anyway, I'll be running (well, wheezing) right up to the front of the counter if/when the Double-Down comes out. It looks quite magnificent..... |

Ever had a KFC sandwich in China? That's certifiably dark meat. No question. But, then again, a lot of people prefer dark meat. I think in the west we touted the health benefits of white meat, and, of course, now they are saying dark meat might actually be a bit better - it isn't "bad" fat, it barely has more calories, and apparently it makes you feel "full."
I've just always preferred white meat even growing up. |

| at KFC's in North America, you can ask for the "extra white meat" which costs a bit more, but tastes far better than the usual chicken. Funny thing, is that they don't advertise it; so it's a little arcane. |

Wooo .. you don't like Roscoe's? I hear it's really good ..
Out of all the countries I've been to, the best fried chicken I ever had was in Taiwan. There is a small food area surrounding a walking "roundabout" in the Jinmen/Kinmen(?) district. I think there's a McDonald's nearby.
There's a couple who deep fries chicken out of a cart - cleaning out the oil between every order. It was 50 NTD for this HUGE piece of chicken, and the crispiness and taste was so good! I think they marinated the chicken before they deep fried in a homemade scratch batter. Had to wait 1.5 hours in line. |

Turns red, pounds fist on table.
I am furious! I object to the idea of a thing existing that I do not want to eat! I object to the idea of a thing being radically different!
First potato bowls, now this! How dare they? How dare they make something that I personally do not want?
I'm so angry that this thing exists that I'm going to bemoan it on the Internet for all who care to read it! Perhaps there will be others who will sympathize with me. We will commiserate, distraught that an international corporation would dare -- dare I say! -- create something without first consulting me! How dare they neglect my obviously superior tastes!
Madness, madness I say! Madness! |

Shocking allegations! You sir are a ruffian! A roustabout! A rabble-rouser!
How dare you contend objectivity in your objectionable objections to my objections!
Good day to you sir! Good day! |

Not a KFC fan, but the concept is beautiful.
I LOVE outrageous bad-for-you foods (see Thisiswhyyourefat.com)
I want to make this at home with bacon country gravy. OMG |

I probably eat something similar to this at least twice a week. Grilled chicken with cheese and bacon. I might make some gravy next time. That sounds really good.
Really if the chicken in the burger were grilled, or fried in real fat, it wouldn't be that bad. It will spike your blood sugar much less than a Big Mac or Zinger Burger will. As it stands, the MSG and trans fat make it a bad choice. It's probably still one of the healthier options at K-Fry.
On a related note, I'm waiting in anticipation for them to bring back deep frying in lard or tallow at one of the big burger joints. |
