Big Bang Theory.

I don't know why that show is still airing. Search "Big Bang Theory no laugh track". There are some sites that will show some scenes with the original laugh track and then with the laugh track stripped. Its amazingly bad.

Ick. That is eery. No laugh track makes it kind of like The Office without any real interaction between the characters.

Two and a Half Men is probably worse (as a show and without laugh track). Sheen and the actor who plays the brother skip a beat to allow for the laughter, but it never comes. Did they really think it was funny when they delivered those lines?

What sort of world do we live in where these shows enjoy high ratings?

That's because almost all of the ambient noise has been removed. Stand up comedians often leave a pause for laughter.....imagine if everybody in the audience had made a pact not to laugh but the comedian still paused and there was nothing but silence.....it has an effect.

Personally I think the Big Bang Theory is very funny.....often because the jokes are very intelligent.

If I can base one on sheer soullessness - the reality show Who's Your Daddy? A woman who had never met her biological father had to pick him out from a group of men. If she picked the right one, she won the cash prize.

Magnum PI

----> agreed with 2 and a half men and big bang theory but, aren't all shows with laugh tracks bad? Friends for example - I try to stay away from the laugh tracks.

I look at the Big Bang Theory and its like they are trying WAAAAAAY too hard to be funny. Its almost painful.

Whereas I see a show like "The Office" and its hilarious.

Totally agree with this. BBT was the first show that came to my mind for this thread.

Thankfully, after the pilot of Groovenians, the show was promptly cancelled. I don't know who read the script and thought it would be a good idea, but it is perhaps the stupidest show I have ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw9TBDCmlTE

People love to watch the exact same things happen each episode. It's kind of like getting a Big Mac at a different McDonald's every week!

The first couple of seasons are great, and Hugh Laurie is the man. But come on. We get it. He is a grumpy old drug addict. I think he might have even renounced the drugs. How is that interesting?

Love the original British The Office. Hate my country's remake. The original is intelligent. The remake makes Americans look stupid by comparison. It is really a show about high school dynamics set in an office with older people. I doesn't make me laugh. It makes me want to slap the characters and say "grow up." It makes me want to slap the producers and say "stop dumbing things down for Americans."

Ridiculous. They aren't really comparable. They might have the same name and pilot episode, but you are reading way too much into it. The original is a masterpiece that will stand the test of time.

The US version is a highly original, entertaining, traditional sit com set in a familiar environment. They aren't going for the same thing and shouldn't be judged as such.

I was really into the original Office, and wasn't seeing good things for the US version. But it has turned into a funny, entertaining show in its own right.

Highly original, traditional, familiar. It seems to me one of these doesn't fit with the others.

The American version is based on the Original. They went in different directions. I compared the difference in directions they went in. The original went in a funny direction. The American went in a crap direction.
Not at all original. Think of Michael as the adult/parent/teacher who is clueless, and the workers as teens. You have the cool kids, nerds, and brown nosing teacher's pet. It's the same crap that has been sold to teens for years and years. Now they are selling it to adults which is really kinda sad. You just have to have the eyes to see beyond the facade.

Ya know Cops was a rip off of Wild Kingdom.

Sex and the City. The narration makes me want to puke. Will and Grace.
