| I thought the movie was great and funny but I was the only one laughing in the theater. They probably thought I was sadistic. |

Watched it today and I was very disappointed. Pointless and excessive violence, coupled with expletives every 5 seconds does not make a good movie.
Nic Cage and the Mclovin' fella were mildly amusing, but the rest of the movie was just a mess of obviously choreographed fight scenes with a thumping techno soundtrack.
A tartrazine-fuelled assault on the senses for the Facebook generation. |

Wait, are you telling me movie fight scenes aren't all improv? WTF?
Also, I think you were talking about The Matrix and Xanga. |

The scenes with the the little kid running around and taking out 10 armed thugs were just ludicrous, and fairly reminiscent of the Matrix, or Kill Bill. |

Given that it's based on a very highly acclaimed comic, I think the stylization choices were appropriate. I think this film offers some very heart wrenching family moments. They juxtaposed the mundane with the fantastic very well. The main characters are easy to relate to from a human condition standpoint.
There were also some decent observations regarding our techno-voyeur culture without being too preachy or trite.
Is it violent? Well, yeah. But I think when you reach a certain point of gore, it becomes cartoonish. I can't handle realistic depictions of war or poverty, but blood & other misc. tissue isn't such a big deal in this context.
Overall, I really liked this movie and I know for a fact that there is a pretty nice version up on torrents so there is no reason not to watch it. My husband tells me some of the Fanboys didn't like it for whatever reason. I meant to read the comic when I heard about it last year (I'm slow on the draw) but I always forget. I think I will read it now so I can compare it with the film.
On a final note, there are people who still watch previews? I almost never know what a movie I watch is about (aside from maybe some personal reviews sans synopsis from friends) before I watch it. It has made my movie viewing experiences extremely pleasant. |

The trailer low-balls ya - then you're hit with a decent flick. |

I'm with you Cap. I was totally uninterested in this film--until I actually saw it. I was into the movie the whole way through. My attention span as of late hasn't enabled me to do that in a while. |
