One thing you almost never hear regarding a country's dependence on oil is the fact that the consumer shares a lot of the blame.

Greenpeace or whoever should tell people to cut down on their driving to protest the Iraq war and the oil spill. People should try to walk more for shorter trips. Get on a bicycle. Cars are part of the reason people in Western countries are so fat.

Good grief. Rolling Eyes Now you're asking me to lower my standard of living because of an oil spill. Give me a break.

No. I'm actually asking you to raise your standard of living by getting some exercise that will better your health.

If you think about it, the McDonalds drive thru is the perfect combination to ruin your health. Fast food and lack of exercise (driving a car).

Michael Ruppert in his movie Collapse says that the U.S. and other industrialized countries will experience a food shortage once the supply of oil runs out because modern commercial food production and distribution is highly reliant on oil.

Just go to the summer of 2008 when oil prices spiked, so did food prices. Maybe he's right.

The rest of the film is very good by the way.

Maybe he's right. So, what? Ringing our hands and getting in a tiz isn't going to solve the problem. The people who come up with an alternative to oil will make big bucks. Something else will come along.
