Oh when I die I have one favor
Don't lay me down in the cold cold ground
Just take me out to the middle of the river
And roll me over and point me South

Oh I make my home on the Mississippi
I'm a roustabout on the steamboat line
We hit the deck on a Monday morning
And we make the dock on a Saturday night

I won't care then so why care now?

The quick and easy way is cremation and so be it. Whomever I leave behind will do as they see fit, probably the hassles-free option.

My father for the longest time spoke of wanting someday to be buried on a mountain and a tree planted over him but when he was dying he said just cremate so I had that done and sprinkled his ashes in the river he and I used to fish in, at the place he and I spoke of years ago of getting as a homestead.

I've spent more seconds thinking about it here on this thread than I have or will in the foreseeable future.

I can't stand the thought of being put in a box and buried underground so...I guess the most realistic option would be cremation. Though I do like the idea of being frozen and made into compost as explained in this book:

A great read if you're interested.

BTW: I have a degree in mortuary science and just might be your resident expert on "death care." I enjoyed caring for the family members and I wasn't a bad embalmer. Ask me anything you want.

How did Koreans react when they asked what your degree was in and you said mortuary science? Very Happy

I'm fine with being cut up for science. Put whatever's left in a hole somewhere or burn it so that anyone who cares to can have the ashes, or visit the site. Once you're dead your memory will last at most one or two generations. After that you and your remains are truly dust, both physically and mentally.

All I want is a lavender coffin
White gardenias all around
Swing band playing a funeral march
As they roll me into the holy ground

As funerals go, this one is I think pretty cool.

Mostly, I don't really care what happens with my body. I think funerals are more for the mourners than for the actual dead.

Don't mourn my death,
Instead, celebrate my life.

Chop me up; burn me up;
And let me float away in the cool cool breeze.

Tibetan sky burial like Parsi's in pre-Islamic Iran, Or the Towers of Silence in India. Quick Re-entrance into the food chain to win good Karma after a lifetime of eating meat. My carcass will be picked clean by Vultures near the ancient paradise of Shangrala
