Oh My God, do you guys criticising hime even watch the shows?

I've wathed all 6 season of HK and all 3 seasons of KK

Is he vulgar, yes
is he pig headed, yes
is he rude, often yes.

But has no class Dev?

Lets firsy look at HK

These are professional chefs going for a job in HIGH END restaurants, the should know the menu and not have the excuses that we see them give. If they lack a ceratin skill the should be ina kitchen doing that station as practice before they come to HK ( of course this is assuming teh show is NOT scripted to have thes people cook poorly in the first place to give the show it prime rating draw, Gordon freaking out at the mistakes.

When he is being given raw food, foods missing ingredients, and oven is not turned on, whats he supposed to do, hold thier hand and sing Kumbaya?

Cooking is one of the few businesses where you stand to lose a customer for LIFE if you have bad services. He is grooming someone to run a restaurant and he simulates a high presure nevironment specifically to prepare someone to be able to handle that kind of pressure in one of his restaurants.

now look at KK, For many of these restaurants they ONLY survive because of his involvement. No of course its self serving, its not entirely selfless, but he re designs the restaurants, buys them new kitchen stuff etc.

And often he is simply brutaly blunt and the people being criticised can not handle the criticism. try actualy watching his interactions with these people, he is calm, collected, and waits for them to calm donw, and then politely asks, are you done, can we work now at getting your restaurant successful.

I mean if he's not your cup of tea thats one thing, but no class? No way

I've watched a few seasons of hell's kitchen. I think that they stock the show with a number of people who are strange, idiotic, or otherwise messed up in order to make the show interesting. They also have a have people who are genuinely capable who will win in the end.

Yes. I agree here. There was one episode where a dude was trying to bake chicken and never even bothered to check to see if the ovens were on. Heck, you would know if it was by standing by it.

There are some people that are just too stupid to even imagine that they ever had any cooking experience on that show.

Generally, when I hear someone like the maintenance guy in my apartment building swearing every 30 seconds, I tend to think people like that are low class. It's blue collar construction guy talk, but white collar office talk. You wouldn't hear a boss in a posh department store ordering his / her employees around with that language. "You f-ing dimwit! Use a larger bag!"

HK should have a points system instead so when someone screws up, they automatically lose a point. No need for all that cussing.

Yeah its pretty obvious that he's realised that causing sensation is what keeps the viewers. Unfortunately the human brain is programmed to focus on whatever is outrageous, different or shocking, be it good or bad (usually bad).

Its not even about the cooking, its about Ramsey needlessly initiating mass clashes of egos and emerging as the alpha male. Crass. I don't watch it because its too much stress for no reason. Nobody wants to watch a stressed out workplace in their liesure time surely??

Hell's Kitchen is truly excruciating to watch. I've watched it once or twice, because I've always enjoyed previous Ramsay shows, but it's just impossible. Ultimately, I think anybody who finds a foul-mouthed English yob verbally abusing people entertaining must've had rather a dubious parenting.

The F Word is much nicer a show. I love the banter, and he teaches us how to cook some of the dishes on the menu. A far better watch. Kitchen Nightmares can be softer as well.

I still don't mind hearing him yell.

Yeah it is true. The show is basically people who can sort of cook vs.
people who cannot cook at all. And the "prize" one season i remember was
a job as a chef at the Borgatta hotel in Atlantic City. I don't know if you have ever been to AC. But Patton Oswald summed it up pretty nicely with this...
"Atlantic City....where hope goes to get raped in the ass. "

Have you ever worked in a good kitchen? In England, they all tend to be like that. Cooking in a good kitchen is not for pussies. I met Gordon Ramsey about 15 years ago, he visited one of the hotels I worked in. He has got class and that is why people of class go and visit his restaurants.

He has dropped the ball a little in terms of cooking over the last few years. Also, there is no doubt that he is acting up for the American market but I'm sure most of us would do if the money was as good as what he is getting(we are ESL teachers, after all).

If you don't like his shows that's fine but to say he has "no class" only shows you up...

Simon Cowell is another following the same formula- confrontation and sensationalism, although of course he is merely a critic rather than a skilled mentor.
I doubt either of the two behave that way normally speaking though. In the real world, such abrasive personalities can only go so far. They make too many enemies and get shut down.
