I like my supervisor at my new school. She is really nice to me. Unfortunately she does not have much teaching experience and does not know how to deal with bad kids. They have walked over the staff because THEY KNOW THEY CAN. Most classes are a joke as a result.

My supervisor at my old school wasn't as nice and had a reputation for lying to the foreign staff but she could really lay the smack down on the kids if they were misbehaving. I don't know what she would say but she even brought the older boys to tears on several occasions.

So while I like my new suervisor a lot more on a personal level, I do miss the raging adjuma at my old school. Disciplined classes are much easier to teach. The job then becomes much more rewarding. Glorified babysitting gets tiresome after a while.

Why can't people be multi- dimensional for once? i mean, be genuinely nice and cool people, yet able to be mean and scary when its required? i can.
Personally, I'm nice because I believe its the best way to be, not because i'm too weak to be a badass on occasion.

I had the b+tch from hell in my first year.

She and the manager above her, lied and lied all through the year. She was hated by all. She was a huge, and I mean HUGE, hypocrite. She lied constantly. She didn't like people from the moment they got off the plane.

She is, I am sad to say, about the only person in my life I have truly hated with a passion and vengeance. There are several others who come close, but she wins the, "Toby's most hated" prize.

(Her name is Uni, just in case you come across her. ABSOLUTE #*beep*)

someone who controls the other teachers. The boss but not the owner or director. My "supervisor" teaches and tries to "manage" us.

But, her being korean, she only got the job because her english is passable, not because she has any type of management skills and or education in management.

Her people skills are terrible. If you ask her a question about something, even simple questions, she looks at you like you did some rediculous unforgivable crime to her.

Other times...actaully most of the time she just ignores u all together and keeps doing whatever she was doing before u asked her. other times she just walks awayh from u pretending she didnt hear.

Some schools have them some don't. That is to say, a "head teacher" or go-between that acts as the conveyor of messages from "God" (alias wonjangnim). He idles the day reading newspapers and is above any direct personal communication or converstion with the teachers. All communication must go through the puppet supervisor, who is God's agent of torture. She pretends to ide with the teachers, but actually is the directors brown nose and spy all at once. The director recieves only her contorted and twisted view of the situation- which is almost always slanted to show the teachers in a bad light.
She has vested interests in maintaining her position, as she gets paid more than the other teachers...probably on 1.2, wow.
She appears to instantly dislike all those under her supervision and relishes her status as slightly bigger fish in the little frog pond. She is known as the witch by the kids, although she actually thinks everyone likes her.
looks like most hagwons have one.

.

Actually that was pretty funny Mr. Rapier. That's almost a picture-perfect description of the one I have at my hakwon. To mention just one example, I'll never forget the day when I referred to her as "sonsangnim" and she threw a major hissy fit. "Oh no, how can you talk that way to me? I am head teacher, NOT sonsangnim" There was more and lots of it in that vein, but I didn't hear it as I had class to prepare for (the other foreign teacher filled me in later).
Once you've figured out how to push their "buttons" and act like it's unintended, you can enjoy yourself even at a place with a supervisor like that. Laughing
