Perhentian Islands in Malaysia.
Stay here...

Make a stop on the way and check out some of Peninsula Malsysia...Melaka or Tama Negara; the world's oldest rainforst.
Flight prices to KL are quite reasonable too. |

The Cambodia/Thailand border is absolutely the worst place in Asia. I would rather hang out in North Korea than ever make than land crossing again.
I would choose Vietnam. People have spent years in HCMC and still feel like there's more to see. |

Thanks all for your replies.
The new route from Air Asia may have made up our minds. If the Palau tour is cheap enough, we're doing that. If not, KL to Krabi. |

well, if you think it will be the last time you come to Asia for a very long time.. then I suggest really go out with a bang! seeing that you will be doing the carribean when you get home.. plenty of beaches to be had there..
so I suggest an itinerary of places which you didn't even mention...
Beijing, Tibet, katmandu, Mongolia, Myanmar, bhutan then finish it off with Bali...
do it backpacking, rough it.. and then Bali you relax...
that's a trip which you can talk about for years and years with folks around the dinner table.... |

I second what Itaewonguy said.
You will go to the Caribbean and be surrounded by beaches, coconut, rum, curry, and fish- why would you spend your time in Asia around the same thing?
You are Canadian, look into the silk road from China to Tibet, then onto Iran and finish off in Turkey/Israel? (well, Turkey if you go to Iran, if you can't, finish in Israel) People don't do that too much anymore and it sure will be more interesting than telling Caribbeans "oh I did this same thing in the far East"
Mongolia is also a good contender. Cheap and lots of things to see- |
