Has anyone done this recently? I have a G2 license, and want to try and exchange it for a Korean one. Does it still work? |

Reviving old links? Yeah, we've all done it. I might do some late today for fun. Ha ha. I exchanged mine back in 2010 when this topic was originally started. I don't know what G2 means. Is it a full licence or do you have to go back to Ontario and go for your full licence? If you do go home practice parallel parking with cones in a parking lot somewhere. Drive slowly and don't change lanes unless the instructor tells you. Most importantly, don't change lanes on a crosswalk. |

I doubt they will exchage your G2 license for a full one. Because you have to go to the canadian embassy to get it apostilled / certified as a "full license" which it isnt..
You can try though... Sometimes things get overlooked and you might be lucky.
Otherwise. Just take the korean license from scratch.. super easy compare to getting a canadian license.. and its cheap. |

It will take less then two weeks to get your license i Korea from scratch.
1. Buy C.D. (from them) with every possible test question on it and read them.
2. Go in and write the exam - in English.
3. Do the course. This will test parallel parking and the like. This is probably the gardest part and it's not hard at all.
3. Road test. Turn left, turn right. Do you signal? Yes. you've passed.
Unless they're busy you should have about 48 hours between tests. |

No such thing.
An IDP is just an international accepted translation of your current license and has the same restrictions.
They are only valid for 90 days AFTER you enter the country (the IDP is valid for 1 year but the law requires you to get a Korean one within 90 days of your arrival if you are resident).
IF you crack up, have only an IDP and have been in Korea for more than 90 days you may find yourself liable for 100% of the costs.

Actually... You're completely wrong. =). I think you're getting Ontario's rules mixed up with Korea..
Let me point you to here with the law regarding IDP's in korea: http://oneclick.law.go.kr/CSM/OvCnpRetrieveP.laf?csmSeq=504&ccfNo=1&cciNo=4&cnpClsNo=1
Quote: |
A person who has an international driver’s license issued overseas may drive in Korea the types of automobiles and motorbikes prescribed in the license for one year starting from the day on which he/she made entry to Korea. |
So if you have an IDP you can technically use it for 1 year starting from the day you enter korea... Regardless of being a resident of korea or not.. Obviously, after 1 year you'd have to get a real license but you're safe for 1 year with an IDP...
Thats directly form the korean GOV.... so if anyone has any issues with the cops just point them to that... |

2) When you return to Canada you can exchange your Korean license for an unrestricted Canadian one (assuming you are over 18 by then ) .
Reciprocal privileges - you can exchange a Canadian license for a Korean one so Canada lets you exchange your Korean one for a Canadian one when you return - same with Koreans going to Canada.
*does NOT include motorcycle endorsement or professional license categories.)
If you did need to take it from scratch, a Korea Drivers training hagwon would take care of it all for you (for a fee of course).

Where did you hear about motorcycle licenses? |
