The state contends that the Bedouin have never had recognized land claims in the area. Al-Okbi's lawyer, Michael Sfard, recently produced evidence in court, however, that appeared to show that the Jewish National Fund had bought land in this area from Bedouin owners during British rule, as did Ottoman authorities before then. This, he said, indicated that the area had customarily been recognized as belonging to the Bedouin.

So basically the JNF bought the land and then the Bedouin refused to move. Also note that the demolotion was initally scheduled ELEVEN years ago. They had plenty of time to move out and find new land. If I buy your house from you you must move out...you don't get to live there another eleven years.

Israel has rejected the U.S. suggested 3-month extension on the settlement freeze just as peace talks resume. Looks like another failed round of talks yet again.

Quote:
The Prime Minister's Office issued a statement later Thursday morning, saying that "we don't comment on the content of negotiations. The position of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the time period allotted in advance for the West Bank settlement freeze is well known, and hasn't changed."

Palestinian sources said Thursday that during their meeting in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Netanyahu told Abbas that Israel would resume construction in the settlements at the end of the month. Abbas reportedly replied that in that case, the Palestinians will have to withdraw from peace negotiations.

Yeah, it's funny how some people thought that these peace talks were going to be different from all the previous ones.
