I had a similar situation while working for the SMOE a couple of years ago. The important thing to know (which my co-teacher and VP didn't) is that overtime hours are to be calculated WEEKLY, not monthly. So if you are schedueld for, say, 23 hours a week, and you teach all of those hours, you are supposed to be paid one hour of overtime for that week; it makes NO difference what happens any other week. Of course, if for whatever reason, you don't end up teaching more than 22 hours (e.g. due to any classes canceled due to a school event), then there's no overtime for that week. But either way, whether you worked 88 hours that month or not has no bearing on anything whatsoever, since the only thing that matters is the number of hours you worked per each week.
For me, I listened calmly to my VP's explanation (which I knew was totally wrong), then said I'd check with the SMOE "just in case," sent the SMOE an e-mail, and then they had someone call the VP and tell him what was up. After that, it all got resolved. I hope it does for you, too. |
