If you're set on booking in advance, always contact the hotel on your own and see what discounts they're offering. I booked in May for Chuseok and managed to swing a 60% at one of the big resorts. I'd never have done anything like that five or ten years ago, but having a wife and small child made planning a bit more important.

And I agree with many about Boracay being more relaxed than party focused.

You can get cheaper if you bargain in person or if something bad happens like the Manila hostage fiasco.

It definitely is, but the party is there if you want it and you're not out of place partaking in it.

I have no doubt, but I don't think my wife would have approved. Unfortunately, the days of winging it are over for me, at least for now.

As for the partying, I'd agree that it's still there to be had. It's just not really in your face if you're not looking for it.

My crash course in having prostitution thrust in my face was as a 22 year old in Cocomanga's. Not quite the party I sought.

I stayed at Dave's Straw Hat near Station 3. Very friendly staff, nice rooms (though basic and no-frills), beautiful grounds. Highly recommended. While it's not the main party area, there are plenty of small beach side bars running happy hours from 2pm-onward.

I've also heard great things about Nigi-Nigi's, which is in the station two area.
As for partying, the two main places everyone heads after midnight are Coco Mangas and Summerplace. Charles Bar near Nigi-nigi has a decent cover band and cheap drinks, and it's right on the beach. The bar at Nigi-Nigi is also a good time.

Nigi Nigi is okay but pricey. The food is good, though the clientele oftentimes are total a-holes.

Cocomangas has turned into a Korean disco and place to pick up prostitutes, though I've seen plenty of couples there. Summer Place is right on White Beach and is dead until after midnight or so but is also full of buck fugly "working girls."

Charhl's Bar (not Charles) is a great place to chill and probably my favorite place in Boracay. Of course, the cover band could be better but the members are friendly and invite guests to sing with them (or jam if you know how to play the guitar).
