My iPod just broke so I figured I might as well spend the few extra bucks on a smartphone. I have a lot of music (like 28 gigs worth) so memory is my main criterion. Since I'm in Seoul, I want something with GPS capabilities and a compass. A decent internet connection would be cool as well. What would you guys recommend? Can I get those two things with an ordinary android, or do I have to buy the Galaxy S, HTC Desire, or the iPhone 4?
And what's the deal with this 2 year contract thing???? Why??? And it applies for every android/smartphone? What a horrible idea, they could make so much more money by doing a one year contract and overcharging a lot for it. How much are the monthly phone bills with a two year contract? |

If storage capacity is most important to you...
There are two models of the Iphone 4 available with either 16 or 32 gb of internal storage and is not upgradable.
The Galaxy S is the highest capacity Android phone available with 16 gb internal with a micro SD card slot for expansion. So if you purchase a 32 gb SD card you can have a total capacity of 48 gb.
The other things you mentioned (GPS, etc) are going to work just fine with the iphone and just about any android phone.

The 2 year contract is just the way it usually works here. However, you don't need to do it. You can easily pay full price for the phone (800,000+ depending on the phone) and have no contract at all. The contract allows them to give significant discounts by agreeing to use the service for 2 years. I think the mistake the a lot of people make here is assuming they're being "ripped off" by paying full price for the phone. It's hard to determine what the actual "cost" of the phone is to the carriers, but it's pretty clear that the 2 year contract price is well below cost. The carriers make up their loss on the 2 years of service. That's where the real money is.

It depends on the carrier, phone, and plan but including the phone cost and tax you're probably going to pay a minimum of around 70,000. |
