+1
Don't buy any food or drinks at the airport, you pay far too much. Have a good book, food and drink in case of delays with you when you arrive at the airport
Get you money changed at your local bank before travelling and have enough Local money on you for maybe two days when you arrive
Get the closest aisle seat you can to the front of the plane.
Enquire if there are any young chidren sitting close to you. If there are, use that to your advantage, I've been upgraded once. The other time I was allowed to wait in the business class waiting room before my flight with free food, newspapers and drinks.
Arrive early and chill out. |

| Schwa, what do you do about toiletries? Do you buy a new can of shaving cream wherever you go? |

Not Schwa, but I also only travel with a carry-on.
Only shave every now and then on vacation, so just buy a cheap disposable razor. Soap works fine instead of shaving cream. Bring the tube of toothpaste on the flight with me, if they confiscate it, oh well, but so far they've only done that once or twice. Same with contact solution, but usually I get a small bottle.
It's really not that big of a deal to travel with just a backpack-sized carry on.. |

Check the benefits of your Frequent Flier airline. I didn't realize it, but I could have brought 3 bags, each weighing 70 pounds (about 32kg) the last time I came back to Korea!!!
Since I have a lot of miles, I asked for an upgrade at the counter. I was upgraded BOTH WAYS without using any of my miles!!!
Sweet!! Ask, and you might receive!! |

When you book your ticket - or after you book it - order a "Special Meal" such as kosher or vegetarian. Airline food typically sucks but kosher meals are always served first and I always have a nice pasta and salad.
I am seconding and thirding the suggestion to ask for the exit row and always ask if they have upgrades to business or first class. The warm chocolate chip cookies are the best! |
