0.
I waited to long to get any good cheap flight so I'm going to stay home, exercise and play Wii all vacation.
Everything is super-crazy expensive this time of year.
Decided the same thing for Seollal.
Next fall I plan to do a China jaunt, my first time outside Korea or Japan. |

Jeju Island in August (1 week):
about 600-700,000 won for everything (flights, accommodation, two tours, food, and sightseeing on my own)
Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo) in September (about 5 days Chuseok week):
About $1600 US. $600 for flights, $150 for 5 nights' accommodation, the rest for food and spending money (mostly food, most attractions I went to were free or cheap)
Upcoming vacation to Thailand and Singapore (9 nights Thailand, 3 nights Singapore, early January 2011):
$800 total for flights, $150 for accommodation for both places, $1500 budget for food/activities for both places Total: around $2400 US.
Upcoming vacation to Boracay (nine days, end of Jan./beg. of Feb.):
about $1000 US for flights (airline prices for Feb. 6th, the last day of Lunar New Year, are crazy expensive), about $140 US for accommodation, and another $1000 budget for food/activities, so about $2140 total.
For Jeju and Japan I flew with Asiana Airlines. For Thailand/Singapore all of my flights are with AirAsia. For Boracay I'm flying with Cebu Pacific. For all the places I stayed/will be staying at hostels/backpacker-type places. I usually try to keep my budget at around $100 US per day, but some days I'll go over or under that limit (it always always evens out though). |

What the second poster said; budget about 100,000 won per day including accomodations, and what you save on that day, you may want to splurge on later on in the trip.
If you don't have enough coin to be comfortable during a trip, you'll be stressed out due to the lack of funds and therefore wasting your time. Stay home and save enough dough to really unwind.
Ten years ago, I was single and a fan, bed, and mosquito net were all I needed in Thailand--now married and a bit older, I don't mind spending the extra dough. |
