This is the main reason I avoided public schools and took my chances with hakwons.

"Get the #*&$ out of my classroom and let me do my job."

The risk of job security, getting paid on time, receiving my severance, etc.. pale in comparison to the daily annoyance and frustration of being watched by some lazy, judgmental, useless, bitter Korean woman all day.

ugh, i just need to vent.

i played a game with my A level students and they finished it faster than other classes. so we had 6 minutes left in class. the kids are really nice and about 5 of them (14 in total) like to just shoot the S with me. so after we finished the game i said "alright, lets just have free conversation time." so i'm talking with some of the students for about a minute then the co-teacher who literally does NOTHING in my A-level classes butts in and says "actually, they need to copy down the dialogue from lesson 11."

the bell rings, and as the students are walking out, they're saying to me "teacher, why can't we have free conversation? we want to talk with you" or "____ teacher is very annoying." "______ teacher is so scary"

so i approach the co teacher after class and tell her that if she's going to do that in the future, pull me aside, tell me what she wants them to do, and then *I* should be the one to make that call. instead of her undermining my authority. then i said "when you do that, it just makes me look like some random foreigner with no power" and she responds "you are." then i get pissed off...... ugh.... she finally apologizes but it's all BS. i don't even want to finish the story anymore.

there was a thread about the worse part about your job. for a lot of teachers, it's the students, but for me, it's my stupid co-teacher. the 38 year old single woman who is angry and bitter.

Wow...honestly if that happened in my class (and it has) the only thing I'd say is "okay" and let her do what ever she wanted. That's a battle not really worth picking in my opinion.

i've just had previous beef with this particular teacher. she's done this before and i've said okay before. so i waited until after class in the teachers office to tell her that she should pull me aside next time instead of doing what she did. that's when she started having a problem.

i encourage students to always ask ME questions if they need something, for example, to borrow a pencil, how to spell a word or use the restroom. i make this clear on my first day of class. so one of my students, she's one of the good studious types, asked me if she could use the restroom. of course i said yes. and the teacher stopped her as she was walking out and told her to sit back down. then she told me students aren't allowed to use the restroom during class. and i told her, i took a crap in my pants in 3rd grade because the teacher didn't let me go so as a teacher, i don't have that dumb policy in my class. she said "well, these kids are in middle school." jesus christ.

and like i said before, this is the same woman who barged into my class during summer camp to accuse me of lying in front of my students, raising her voice, making a scene. it was really embarrassing on her part.

Can we all vent? please?

I have an unmarried, ugly co-teacher who storms around the school like she's permanently having menstrual problems. She either sits at the back of the class with her back turned, or is not even in the class at all. When I ask her if she could co-teach, as I teach mega low-level elementary and might need some explaining done, she snaps she is co-teaching! She then mocks me saying "can't you teach only in English?" while the classes she does by herself are in 50% Korean (I have two co-teachers). She tried to explain something in English once, and all the students are yelling "no, teacher, no understand, Korean speaking pleasuh". What's more is she is my handler, yet the last time I asked her to do something, she snarled "I'm not your personal assistant". An unpleasant friggin hag if ever there was one.

The other co-teacher is a fat little slob, unmarried and has two hobbies, eating and sleeping. She waddles into school 3 minutes before starting time, usually carrying and eating her breakfast, sorts through her shambles of a desk, announces she doesn't have the flashcards, and looks at me for help. She has to prepare 2 lessons a week, and that's the best she can do.

Man, I just love this Korean Public School gig.

Seems to be a theme here with middle-aged unmarried Korean women as co-teachers.

My handler is one such person. She has a face like a slapped arse most the time and can barely growl a "good morning" at me when she gets to school. She generally stands at the back of the class and gives me the evil eye.

Haha, I remember this! This is why I say things like "I will never teach PS again". I could probably handle it better now than I did as a newbie, but coping or not, who needs all that aggravation? Not interested in playing queen of the castle every day at work.
