As is everyone else who posted.
Why don't you share your perspective on western teachers with him? I'm sure he'll take you seriously after that..... |

Not really, they were all biased answers leavng out wonderful places to live and work in because they prefer convenience instead of having to do a little effort. They sound like spoiled children because they can't be inconvenienced.

I will say this, it is up to you on what kind of experience you will have here. How you treat others, how you view this nation and its people and your students. I worked in a good hagwon years ago yet some of the Foreigners hated it and had a bad time. Same school, same boss but 3-4 different perspective.
You could work at the worst Wonderland and have a great time while the rest of the people at that place would be on here complaining about it. It all depends. |

Just to say that I had my interview a couple of weeks ago and it went well. I'm now going through the process of gathering numerous documents that I've been asked to get so hopefully things will quicken up once I've sorted that out.
One thing I'd like to know concerns holidays. Can anyone tell me whether you have to take holidays at certain dates or is it simple enough to request them to suit? I understand each school will be different in this regard however if anyone can draw from their own experience and let me know how their situation is/was I'd be much obliged.
Reason being I am due to attend a family wedding which I'd rather not miss so ideally I'd be requesting 1 week off to be able to do so. I don't have anything else on so it's only this 1 week in particular I'd need off - the rest I can take whenever. Simple enough, or not? |

With public schools, they have a schedule. Make sure you bring this up to them and let them know you are aware YOU will be paying all expenses for this.
With hagwons, some may allow it while others will need something in return. Don't be surprised if you work a few days without pay in exchange for this. However, it's more flexible than a public school arrangement. |

It depends almost entirely on your school.
If the wedding is during the regular school year - march to july, sept to jan - you will almost definitely not be allowed to take a week off during those times.
If it's during the school vacation period AND they dont have you teaching vacation classes, it shouldnt be a problem to take the week. However, most schools are very slow to tell you the exact dates of the camp classes so you may not know if you will be able to attend the weeding until the last minute.
Let them know the dates right away and if they say it's no problem, GET IT IN WRITING. Memories are short here.
Basically, whenever you request vacation time, make sure you get the approval in writing with the CT, VP and principal's signatures. It doesnt mean they wont change their minds later and screw you, but at least they cant claim they forgot or that they never said it was OK. |
