At university, one of my friends lived in a tower. There were 2 Pakistani guys in our group, both very strict Muslims, followers of the whole wash-not-wipe or go to hell stuff. One night one of them went for a shit, couldn't find a bottle so he decided to try paper for the first time. He went through 3 Rolls of the stuff and later explained that the paper wasn't getting rid of the microscopic shit-particles. The toilet ended up being blocked *way* beyond the point that it was usable.
There were no public toilets in the tower, and it was one of the top floors. For about a week we pissed into cans and bottles and poured it from the window. It's only as I recount the story now that the true strangeness is apparent to me...

Using water is the best way for a clean bum area IMO. I love using bidets, or heck, if it is really bad, jump into the shower and hose that area off. After a night of spicy food, trust me, cold water is the way to cool the fire!

When I do have to use paper it is ALWAYS flushed. As someone earlier said, don't use a roll and you shouldn't have a problem.

Who the hell doesn't flush their poo paper? No one ever told me not to. I don't have ant more problems clogging the toilet in Korea than I did back home. I probably use my plunger once or twice a year.

Yes, they did tell you not to, but it was in the form of Korean-language signs on the inside of the stall door.

Even if there is a sign in English telling me not to flush the paper I can't bear to just leave it laying around in public, good heavens. That's just impolite.

if it's a western toilet, then the plumbing is wide enough to handle the paper. If it's a squat hole in the ground, then you should be putting your paper in the wastecan.

False.

I've had to have a plumber to my house 4 times in the last year. The first time was because I didn't know not to flush paper, the other 3 times were because guests of mine forgot.

What type of toilet you have is irrelevant, what matters is the pipes under the house.

Be sure to use paper that quickly breaks up (you can test it by simply seeing how soft the paper gets in water) and you'll be fine. Just don't use too much. If you've 'made a serious mess' of your behind, then it's better to shower it down first!
