So I've just become a bit confused:


Does the CRC last 6 months from the time you receive it/it is issued or from the date to get a job? I've heard someone say the latter, which didn't really make much sense to me. Not sure why, but it just doesn't.

The reason why I ask is because I'm not 100% sure whether I'd be looking for a hagwon position in late summer/early fall of 2011, or holding out for a GEPIK/EPIK job in early 2012 (applying in late summer/early fall of 2011). So basically, I'm not sure when I should get my CRC, because if it only lasts 6 months and I can't get a decent hagwon job this fall, then I'd have to go through the process again to get a new one.

E.g. Say I get one in March. According to my previous understanding, it would last 6 months from its issuing date and I'd have to get a new one by September.


Could someone clarify for me? Also, how long should the CRC take if I don't get the fingerprints sent out to Ottawa (national level RCMP check that takes 3-5 months)?

Here is what the Korean consulate in Vancouver has to say on their website. I also spoke to them on the phone today about an Edmonton city police check and they said it is acceptable. Edmonton city police checks check the CPIC national police records.

- A certificate from third party agencies (i.e. Commissionaires or Trueheck.ca) is NOT acceptable.
- A photocopy of the Police Certificate or Criminal Record Check must be notarized by the Notary Public prior to verification by the Korean Consulate.
- For a C4 Visa applicant for short-term English teaching, a police certificate is NOT required to be notarized.


This is what I have read/heard/seen. Please double check everything through your local consulate or embassy.

I sure hope that they accept Commissionaires. I got the digital fingerprints done because they can do it in 2-3 days as opposed to the 120 quoted by the RCMP for ink and roll. It is sent in to the RCMP in Ottawa and comes back with verification that the RCMP did it, so I would be extremely unhappy if that is not accepted. I live in Ontario but would expect the consulates to have similar policies. I'll find out soon enough I suppose.

The RCMP issued Criminal Records Check will absolutely 100% be accepted and is probably preferred by immigration. It does not matter if you used the Commissionaires electronic fingerprinting service, everything is done by the RCMP, the actual CRC document that is sent to you by the RCMP says nothing about the Commissionaires on it. I'm looking at mine right now.

Also, I went through a lot of stress to find out whether or not a city issued CRC with CPIC would be accepted. After calling the Korean embassy in Ottawa, they confirmed that the CPIC would be accepted. I sent the CPIC CRC to immigration and it was approved without any problem.

Unfortunately I spent an unnecessary $80 on the Commissionaires electronic finger printing service to have my RCMP check done in a few days only to find out that the CRC with CPIC is fine.
