Until just recently I thought I was going to extend my contract, but plans changed. Confused. |
The ARC would allow you to live in Korea. You would need to update the ARC so it has your new address.
You would need to get a tourist visa (in essence), because the employer CHOSE the OPTION to NOT KEEP YOU EMPLOYED.
HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND????
Your next action SHOULD NOT be to reply to this post but to get over to immigration and find out the process for changing from E2 visa to tourist visa. |

Hi YTMND. Just to be clear, the original contact is simply being completed and I requested that it not be renewed. |

No, still clear as mud. You don't seem to understand something.
1. You are not important.
2. I am not important.
3. Anyone else giving you advice IS NOT IMPORTANT.
Who is important?
4. The employer is important.
The employer is the one who can sit on their butts and do NOTHING. We have to communicate changes to immigration, and it is the employer who communicates with immigration that you will or will not work. Regardless if you feel you ended things or they ended it, immigration is going to listen to employer 1 and employer 2 if you go to another school. They are not going to care if you later tell them on the 15th day because you overstayed your extension that you requested to not be renewed.
It doesn't have to be a request, it can be your choice. However, that even makes it more of a burden on you to tell the same thing to immigration. You have 14 days, stop twisting this with your lazy procrastinating unsound logic and leave before said time or go to immigration (one foot in front of the other) and show them your flight itinerary. You probably don't need it, but it will help speed up the process, and they will see exactly what you want to do and then grant you the extra time beyond 14 days.
This is your last warning, if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice. You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill. |

Hi YTMND
Everybody is important. You, too. I hope somebody treats you well today.
~~~
Here's a copy and paste of my post this morning on the other thread:
I just phoned immigration 1345 and was put through promptly to a very nice English-speaking representative. I explained that my contract was being completed soon, but I would like to stay in Korea (without working) until near the end of my ARC expiration date, which is about 2 weeks later.
I asked:
1) Do I need to notify immigration of anything after completing the contract?
2) Do I need to apply for a 30-day tourist extension, since my contract has been completed (even though there is still sufficient time left on my ARC)?
The immigration representative said:
I don't have to do anything. (?) I don't need to contact immigration after my contract is completed. I don't need to apply for a tourist visa. I can stay without working and without doing anything else with immigration until the last day of my ARC card validity.
It sounded too convenient to be true. I reviewed the whole situation once more and politely asked if she was sure. She said she is positive. |
| If the employment contract period is changed |
I really do appreciate your taking time to help sort this out. Really. The point above reminds me of something the lady from immigration said on the phone this morning. She said something like "No, you don't need to register anything else with immigration. You're just completing your contract. You're not changing the contract dates. We know the dates. You don't need to do anything."
So, I guess, you know, the contract period hasn't changed. |
If you signed a 13 month contract and you end it after 12 months, then the contract (agreement) has changed. I don't know your situation.
If your contract was 12 months, then the 13th month is not for working.
If your contract is not for working, then you are likely to need to leave. You stated you will be with a friend.
You have a new residence address and you need to update your ARC. It would show your current address there and updates.
You can't do this electronically, so online updating is out of the question.
I am not trying to help you, I am trying to post information. I am done with you. This is for people who search threads in the future so I can help them.
| Pablo, the expiry date on your ARC is the date by which you need to leave the country after you finish a contract. That's what immigration told you on the phone and it's the truth. The employer may have to notify immigration that you are not working with him anymore when he takes the new teacher(your replacement) to immigration BUT your legal status of sojourn in Korea only ends when you hit the expiry date of your ARC. If you want to stay beyond that date, then go to your immigration office for an extension or apply for a D10 visa which is valid for 6 months. |
You skirted off of the immigration issue.
You STILL have to report your new location of residence. You WILL NOT be staying at the same address. |
YTMND, It's not an issue. And once a teacher leaves the country before the ARC expires, it will never be an issue. That extra month was added to all teachers' ARCs for good reasons. |
Yes, to have extra time, but you still have to report location changes according to the rules.
They didn't omit the back of the card. All cards have 2 sides  |
