No, it is the first time that I have heard of that book. I was simply making an educated guess based on the facts that homosexuality was widespread in ancient Greek culture and that Greek culture became one of the major influences on Afghanistan starting with the conquests of Alexander the Great.

The ancient Mahayana Buddhist monastry culture around Afghanistan could be another source of homosexuality among the Pashtuns.

I am guessing the Buddhist monks were not allowed to marry... so, since certain deviant Catholic priests have not resulted in Ireland (or other Catholic nations for that matter) having a widespread culture of homosexuality, I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the Mahayana Buddhist monastery culture was not the primary influence.

A strong presense of Mahayana Buddhism in Edo period Japan did bring elements of homosexuality in the Samurai class.

Homosexual rape is also a theme that runs through The Kite Runner, a novel set mostly in Afghanistan.

I put it down to Islam, a religion which is very highly sexually repressive. People need a way to express themselves sexually and if the prevailing ideology does not allow this in a 'normal' way then people become rather abnormal. I am not talking about gays here but straight people for which homosexual relations are abnormal.

Check out the rape stats in Oslo. The vast majority of rapists are Muslim immigrants. The statistics are rather alarming.

You can see the same kind of perversions in the Catholic priesthood. The priest diddling little boys has become an unfortunate cliche.

In American prisons men have sexual relations and don't consider themselves homosexual. Same same but different.
