yeah thats true so people here as "independent contractors" could be in violation of immig laws and be in trouble, not sure who would get in trouble likely your employer

people who take these jobs are idiots as the employers are using this status to lessen their tax burden (ie paying into pension nhic etc) and exposing the teacher to those tax liabilites.

wish people would wise up and not take these positions

Hogwonguy1979.... Thank you for your brilliant advise and wisdom in your previous posts.

Please read the title from the OP.

Could you now please share something relevant to the topic?

i told him who to choose, nhic its required by korean immig policy.

the op is an idiot for taking a job as independent contractor on an e2 visa, its not only not allowed he is allowing his employer to not meet his legal obligations

these positions are no better than wonderland etc.

In return, I work under 20 hours a week, go to work at 1 pm, finish at 5:30pm and receive a higher salary with no boss onsite and complete freedom with lesson planning.

Meanwhile, my side work pushes me well over the 3 mil a month. Easy to do thanks to the low hours. I'm getting professional training in another field here which would be impossible a normal 4-10 hogwan schedule.

Yeah, my life sucks....I'm dying to return to my old hagwon and public school job that required me to be onsite 40 hours a week for the same pay. I sure do miss korean bosses, stale hagwon interiors, and forced school lunches/trips.

And, it seems you also miss having health insurance. Cool

Aetna has an expat plan....anybody have experience with them? About 100k a month under their quote.

The other expat insurance companies seem rather shady...

Go for it. You seem to have experience (and a blind spot) when dealing with shady people. This company and your employer would complete the set.

Health Insurance isn't the end of the world. There are other factors of the job to consider, and the OP considered them it seems.

I've heard some PS are requiring their teachers to pay unemployment insurance premiums. There's all sorts of shady employers.

Yeah, they boosted the rates for insurance so now foreigners have to pay more on the national plan. Another factor why I don't mind....I know a few gyopos who've opted out because of that.

They boosted the rates for everyone - not just for foreigners.

2010 - 2.67%
2011 - 2.89 %

For a 0.0022% increase, they dropped their public insurance? Not too bright.

That's a whopping 4840W increase to their monthly deduction for someone earning 2 200 000W per month.
