I love Facebook but I really think before I post. I have 300+ people on my friend's list ranging from immediate family to friends to acquaintances to colleages to people I've only met once and so on. My posts can get pretty raunchy but if I want to post about something that could possibly strike someone the wrong way, I filter not only that person but all the people in any way related to that person!

You just gotta think before you post. I posted a horribly offensive comic the other week that I personally found hilarious but afterwards I noticed about ten deletions and some of my Korean friends/co-workers lowered their opinions of me (in my defense, it was really funny).

I put everyone who asks on my facebook and then just never update it with anything mean or offensive or drama-inducing. I got coworkers, students, extended family, everyone.

I think I regret the loss of "mother *beep*" most of all. Sometimes you just want to say mother *beep*.

Dammit Dave, I had to censor that myself. What is this board coming to?

"It feels like I'm being tracked by someone."

That's the whole purpose of facebook.

1 facebook profile for friends and family (and still, do you really need to keep in touch with your 1st grade best friend? I keep that shiz down under 100 people, with periodic purges) and 1 for coworkers, students, and those certain expat friends that you don't trust enough.

Also, keep it rated PG13, and use code words that only your friends know Wink

I've can count the amount of times that I've swore on FB on one hand, and each time, I've added a "sorry mom" to it :lol

I feel for you.

Saw the same thing happened to a woman in the States, she went to FB and was ranting about parents gettin all pissy, she lost her job.

I made the same err. Went to FB to post a video about zoos in Korea. My head teacher saw it, then read comments by trolls posting to the video and hated me for it. Rolling Eyes She didn't talk to me for a month.

Just apologize, give them a cake and leave it be. You have 6 more months. I have 11 Embarassed Crying or Very sad

So what are you going to do afterward? Go home or go to a different school. I think I have to go a different school as well because renewal is out of the question.

Koreans love making the workplace an intensely unpleasant and tension-filled environment. Clan loyalty is big in Korea, it not only overrides all logic but it also protects them from that most feared of things: adverse criticism and open communication.

Which is one of the big reasons why Korea has not been able to truly become an advanced country, reflected perfectly not only in the workplace, but also propagated big-time from the pulpit. It's not only about the money or high-speed internet/proliferation of cellphones, it's how you function together and let everyone have a shot to develop themselves freely.

Simple solution: Don't add your students (or coworkers)

I didn't. I even blocked them from my facebook. Someone must have knew my co teacher and told them. My job is to find out who now.

Check your privacy settings. Facebook pages can come up on a simple search, unless you restrict it, just any joe smith can read whatever's on your profile.
I have had to change my account back to private several times. It seems that whenever there is a change to the layout the box that sets my account to private gets unchecked.

Venting on facebook is never a great idea anyway. Do you really want to read when other people whine about their day?

But when you get colleagues deliberately making the effort to get access to your page when they're blocked from conventional access, then relaying that info to smear someone (reminiscent of a medieval witch hunt carried out by religious zealots), you got something on a different level.

As ZIFA said, this is indicative of the clanish mentality which prevails in this country and prevents Korea from developing an environment where new ideas can be fielded and developed in a progressive manner. Koreans remain on the whole conservative and backward, with outward trappings of open-mindedness only appearing in situations where a trend has already been put in motion somewhere else. The church plays a significant role in reinforcing this small-minded approach in Korean society, and its power and influence is wielded by big players in business and politics.

Unlike DavesESL of course Wink

Come to think of it, couldn't co teachers or anyone read his comments (or any of ours) on here just as easy if not easier?

I'd also presume those of us who have co teachers that are not on Facebook and as far as we know no other co workers would be reasonably assured they won't know we posted about them. I would wonder how the heck they found out. I assume that was the case with the OP. If not and coworkers were on FB and they had mutual friends, then sorry, it wasn't too smart to post things.

I've found that similar things can be said for a lot of countries- even in europe- but I would get slammed as a "generalising bigot" if I started to name them.

Like you say..some countries developed cultures that were condusive to ingenuity, free thinking, individuality...invention and advancement. Excepting its group hard- work ethic, Korea is not one of them, its a recent copycat emulator. However I don't think churches have had any negative effect in this regard. If anything it is countries of christian heritage that have developed the most. Its really ...just about eastern culture.
