I am pleased to read you are considering 2 of my ideas.
Langkawi wins for location. You can fly into Kuala Lumpur then 1 more hour to Langkawi.
If you go to Palawan, go to either Port Barton or El Nido. Puerto Princesa is not overly romantic. The underground river nearby could be cool for a day.

I have been to Jeju with my wife and don't want to go there for our honeymoon.
We are debating between Langkawi and Palawan now. Thanks everyone for their recommendations.
I did the pricing on the Cebu Air website and the tickets would be about 1.2million for the both of us to Puerto Princessa. So you are saying that we shouldn't actually stay in Puerto Princessa but take a bus to El Nido? We don't care if there are not a lot of clubs/people there, actually prefer it but do need a bar. We just want to be able to relax on the beach, me eating balut while waiting for the next dive time, and her receiving massages.
I am still researching Langkawi a bit more. |

Um, if you want that, your best bet is Bohol and Bascilisag (sp?)
No beachfront massages in El Nido or dive shops, though there are some nice boat trips where you can go snorkeling. Haven't been to Coron but there is ww2 wreck diving, again not sure about massages. Bohol has both. |

If you choose to do the palawan option my recommendation is to go puerto princesa, sabang, port barton, el nido, and ferry to coron. i suggest you fly into puerto princesa and out of coron/busuanga so you dont have to cover the same ground. the church in puerto princesa is quite charming and the traditional market in the evening is nice. puerto princesa is good for a night as a jumping off point in palawan. i love palawan but remember once outside of puerto princesa most people live a very primitive lifestyle. outside of puerto princesa you are off the beaten path unless you stay at one of the few more expensive resorts on the island. if you are only spending 1.2 on airfare that leaves you an enormous amount of money for comfortable lodging and diving. palawan for me was great b/c i could ride a motorcycle for many hours without ever seeing another foreigner. around chiang mai for example no matter how far i would ride i couldnt get away from other foreigners. if your wife is picky about always having creature comforts and modern technolody you might look at malaysia or cebu/bohol.
again let me be clear....if you want 24/7 creature comforts palawan is probably not the place to go......but the inconveniences also have the payoff of seeing one of the last unspoiled islands in asia........
if you need more info this guy is a private guide on palawan
