OP, your employer may indeed come right, but highly unlikely in time for when your severance becomes payable.
At that time they'll also be faced with procuring another teacher and all attendant costs. Since they aren't providing your accommodation, they also will have to fork out for the new teacher, key money and all that.
If they pay you your severance, how are they going to afford their new teacher lifeline?
A hakwon has a significant element of momentum, a buildup. Things can't really be turned around in a short time in such a competitive industry. There's no panacea or magic bullet, they simply have to keep plugging on with the right ingredients in place. Unfortunately, that happy formula doesn't include a timeframe that will suit you.
On the other hand, you like and trust them. That counts for a lot. If you leave now you might somehow inveigle a bad karma into your life.
Ergo, you stay on. EFL in Korea almost by definition runs the risk of losses. That is, try and be philosophical if you can.
In any case you'll likely lose the same amount as the severance with the downtime or other suffered when you jump ship.
I would henceforth let them know that you aren't best pleased whenever they stagger your salary, else they'll start seeing it as standard procedure. |
