I care about the Korean teachers, the helper teachers, the secretaries and the bus drivers. They have bills to pay, and it's not as easy for them to get another job as it is for the foreign teachers.

It really sucks because they were all really amazing and deserved better than being screwed out of a few month's wages and then told they will never get that money, while a fat f*ck like Mr. Nah is probably not even facing any charges and living it up in NZ.

When are people going to understand that payday is not negotiable.

It is due the start of business the stated day and late if it is not paid at the end of business that day.

Then, you do not go to work the next day.

PERIOD

Wow, gossip sure does spread fast.

As one of the teachers that was royally screwed by SLP Daejeon, or more acurately, the snakey owner, Mr. Na, I can say that is has been a dramatic week.

@ somethingawful: please get your facts straight before you begin theorizing on what happened.

The school itself was quite a money maker and in stable condition. Had it not been for the scoundrel laundering money, we would all still have jobs and money in our pockets.

It is a horrible, unfortunate situation. Sure, all of the teachers could get on here and bash SLP corporate, our boss, Mr. Na, or hagwons in general but these nightmare experiences happend and will continue to happen. There are snakes all over the world.

SLP Daejeon is closed. Every SLP is privately owned. There are good and bad aspects of every school, job, people, etc. In any job, you take a risk. Life is a risk.

In the end, it's only paper.

@ somethingawful: Thanks for worrying so much but why don't you just move on with your life and stop bashing my friends who chose to stay at SLP.

You speak of how moronic foreigners must be to work at SLP...

Where was your useful information about SLP Daejeon before I signed my contract and joined the school 2 months ago?????

The whole point of this forum is to help people from making huge mistakes. Thanks buddy.

Great job!

Sorry I forgot to log in every week and babysit you. There is a search function on these forums you know, and even just mentioning SLP will get tons of replies with people saying, "Don't join the Slave Labour Program".

And SLP was doing poorly when I left, I can't say how it was doing the past few months, but when I left there were classes that had to be shut down and others where the profit margin was paper thin due to the number of kids per teacher. If SLP was doing so well then why bail with only 160million? Why not keep it as a long as possible and just have the profits ciphon into your NZ account? If it's such a good moneymaker, why throw that away?

I'm not going to post a "sky is falling" thread saying that SLP is going out of business every two weeks, I told my coworkers who were not total sperglords that it would be a good idea to get out asap and those that did, have already emailed me to say thanks. I'm sorry that you're out of a job, but it's not that hard to find a new one.

Exactly! 5 seconds on google and the truth about SLP becomes crystal clear! The only reason I signed with them was I was in a hurry, specifically wanted to be in that area of Daejeon, and negotiated a rate of pay I was happy with.

Those of you looking for a job, ASK TO TALK TO A CURRENT TEACHER, then get their email address so you can talk to them without one of the admin listening in on the converstation.

You can find bad things about any school you research. What hagwon hasn't had negative s%*t written about it?!

Basically, you don't have to be such a douche bag!

"I told you so..." C'mon buddy, have a lil' heart.

SLP doesn't even concern you anymore. Why add insult to injury?

However, it never hurts to inform future job seekers.

So, it's being a douche bag to warn about these situations?

So, it's being heartless to warn others about theses types of situations?

It concerns anyone who is interested in warning others about these situations.

Sure, many if not most hagwons have had bad reviews. And often you have to wonder if it's not a problem with the complainer. SLP has been continually slammed on this site for its treatment of employers. This pushes it up the scale of bad hagwons into a premier realm of skulduggery.

Since the owner's disregard for Korean labor law has been made apparent, I'm left wondering how legal his NZ golf business. Perhaps his name should be passed onto NZ immigration. I wouldn't be surprised if he is simply using a tourist visa to run the place on.

Yes. Someone should get on that. Call immigration and whatever other authorities can nail his butt to the wall. Koreans and foreigners who worked for him alike.

Comeupance!

If you walked away with that much of people's money, wouldn't you expect to be caught somewhere down the road? This guy had the gall and stupidity to tell everyone what he's doing! "Hey everyone! I'm stealing all your money and going to Korea's Caman Island! Here's exactly what I'm going to do ..."

Come on.

The problem is that he probably hasn't been charged with anything. He's living the Korean dream, "to screw a bunch of your employees over and live off of their money in a foreign country". What cop is going to bother writing him up on that? Hell, I imagine the next time he comes back to Korea he clears cutoms without any trouble at all.

The only possible punishment this guy will ever get is if one of his Korean business partners scams the golf course and takes off to the US. Then he'll have to come back to Korea and start over again.
