On the contract it states
you only work 15 hours a week, hence the lower pay.
And also 95% of the time you are provided your own housing, the only reason you would stay with homestay is if you ask for it specifically or get placed in Jeju
And yes, usually placement is in a rural area, but that is not a suprise.

Do you have to be a Gyopo to do TaLK or could anyone from a Western country with a two year certificate in anything do it? I have a couple of degree-less friends back home who might want to do it but none of them are of Korean ancestry (they're white).

I think most of the folks who do it are Gyopo, but it's open to anyone.

I know someone who is staying with the TALK program even after getting a bachelors because apparently after taxes and having other things taken out (pension, etc.) from EPIK pay, they consider TALK a better deal.

Since this person isnt from the US (or any country) that gets their pension back when leaving, they consider it not worth it (I thought pension was only 4.5% though). Couldnt get them to explain the math quite well but I guess they did enough research to come to their own conclusion.

I'm not sure, but is TaLK pay considered a scholarship and not taxed? Either way, TaLK teachers get paid almost 300,000-800,000 less than most beginning NETs. Not sure if that cut is worth it.

Since they work 15 hours a week, do they only have to be at school for those 3 hours each day? That would leave a lot of time for exploring I guess.
