Is the Butterfinger in Gangnam the same franchise as the one in Jeongja?

I thought the Butterfinger in Jeongja was horrendous.

- The vegetables were from the frozen food section (could definitely taste the quality or lack thereof). The mashed potatoes were instant. The eggs were burnt.

- The service was horrible. It took them 25 minutes to come back after taking our order to tell us we couldn't have gravy on our mashed potatoes as they were all out. Then our eggs were burnt and we asked for them to bring us new ones and they gave us a hard time about it.

- The serving size was tiny for the price. The standard breakfast set was around 12-15,000W I believe (for two eggs, sausage, vegetables/potatoes, and toast with all being small portions).

We just stick to Daily King's Diner. Hopefully the Butterfingers in Gangnam is different but that one experience turned us off for good. Don't want to risk it again.

Does it have to be non-western food?There is a makali place near Rainbow (hookah bar) that I like. It is in the basement of a building nearby. It is called 월매네증막.

That Irish pub you are talking about is probably Dublin. You are right about it being way overpriced.

I might have to try out the Din Tai Fung place.

I personally like Dos Tacos. Sure it is not as cheap as back home but we are a little far from Mexico (it is more Cal-Mex though). Follow the instructions posted earlier and you will find it on the side of the Kyobo building.

Could someone actually suggest real restaurants instead of reheated chain crap.

I once went to some revolving Sushi joint in a big building near Gangnam station and a TomNToms, yeah I know that narrows it down....

Anyways it was about 38,000 for a good fill ( all the sushi I wanted, plus a side dish or two) with a beer.

General Guide to restaurants-

Reasonable= Max 10,000
Decent= Max 15,000
Good= Max 35,000
Nice= Max 70,000
Superb= Max 150,000
Outstanding= 150,000+

It's the same chain, but that seems really out of line with the experiences I've had at the Gangnam location, as well as those of everyone I know that has been there.

Dos Tacos I guess? Line 2 to Gangnam st, exit 6, walk right along to almost the top of the street . It`s bright by the Mac store (before Kyobo building). Even closer to Sinonhyun Station line 9 but I forgot the exit no.

Dos Tacos is cheap??? Rolling Eyes

Did I say it was?

The OP was asking for Mexican restaurants in Gangnam that was not Tomatilla. There are not many around and I assumed he was talking about Dos Tacos.

Thanks for your valuable contribution in this thread so far.. ie:nada.....Dave`s at its best. Rolling Eyes

I work on Gangnam. I love the burritos at Dos Tacos. It used to be that they were 8,000. Now they're a bit more. I don't spend more than 10 or 12k there.

If you walk behind Gangnam you can find cheaper places. One street parallel and the prices are cheaper. If you want to eat Korean food, even better.

Out of exit 5 there is a Chinese restaurant that serves jjajjangmyun for 5,000 (it's got red lanterns hanging in the windows), across from the back entrance to Paris Baguette there is a chicken place that is around 5-8k.

Now I want some Dos Tacos...mmmm chicken & avocado burrito...mmmm.

Exit 6, go straight to the first street you hit, hang a left. Go about a block and you'll be there, can't miss it.

Fair point. The dishes at Butterfingers are huge, and everyone I know who goes there generally splits a dish between two people, the most expensive dish being around 18,000. If you're someone who needs two inch-thick slices of French toast, two pancakes, three pieces of bacon, two breakfast sausages, a white sausage, a ham steak, two eggs, and a big pile of hash browns (the split decision) to yourself, I suppose the place is pricey. Thus why I wrote, "if you don't go all crazy," as it's quite easy to over-order and the food isn't cheap if you do (and it's not like you're going to take French toast and scrambled eggs home with you).

Din Tai Fung generally runs around 20,000 per person if you're drinking, 12,000-15,000 if you're not.

I'd totally be able to eat all that.

And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

Gangnam Butterfingers is quite good, comparable to iHop or others in the states. I'll hit up "On the Border" at COEX or Taco Bell if i'm hankering some Mexican. Korean food places are always cheap and plentiful. Sometimes i'll run into a Family Mart and just grab a Farm Sands sandwich. Here and there you'll find some deli sandwich places. Not so many Subways or Quiznos around any more. During the week in a lot of the major business buildings at the bottom floor they have food courts.

Ability and need are different things. If you need that much for breakfast you're going to be spending a crap ton regardless.

Din Tai Fung is garbage food. Way too expensive, with a very limited selection of dumplings compared to other Din Tai Fung locations in the world.

Dos Tacos is excellent food, and more expensive than your average Korean Kimbabcheonguk style place, but cheaper than other Mexican in the area (Cheaper than Julios behind CGV Gangnam, and way cheaper than On the Border COEX, there's another place near Big Rock too but I haven't tried it and don't know prices but hear it's good) so I guess it depends on your definition of reasonable.

Other places:

ChiChiBu - Japanese ramen place also near CGV, 8,000won for miso ramen.

DongHaeDo - 17,000 all you can eat in 45 minutes sushi train place on Teheranno up the hill from Gangnam Station Exit 8. Not the best sushi, but the price is right.

Japanese mixed rice place in the CGV building, next to where the rip-off Turkish place used to be, can't remember the name, it's delicious and reasonably priced.

Vin 103 (I think) - Indian curry place also behind CGV, cheaper than the other Indian options, and while not the best in Seoul, worth it if you're craving curry and don't want to trek North of the river. Always sold out of lassis.

Chinese style lamb skewers place near NB/Harlem, always packed so expect to wait, but high quality lamb at standard Seoul 양꼬치 prices.

Plenty of good places to eat meat for reasonably cheap a short walk from Gangnam station, try the area between Sinnonhyeon and Nonhyeon stations, near Hanshinpocha, the Nonhyeon-dong side, not the Banpo-dong side.

Good donkass(돈까스) around the corner from the lamb place, small place next to the real estate agent, closed at night though.

Gangnam Gyoza is exactly the same as the famous Myeongdong Gyoza, in the same building as the lamb place, and same proces as Myeongdong, same menu, quality, kimchi, everything.

In the O'Ville Gangnam (opposite Lotte Castle Apartments, down the road from NB/Harlem) there is a good Korean place on the ground floor with excellent banchan and good jjigaes (5000won area). On the second floor is a good sundubujjigae (also 5000 or thereabouts) place and a beef sashimi place that does great raw beef bibimbab for 6,000 or 10,000won depending on the size.

Next to The O'Ville is a nice Sundaeguk place, 24 hours.

Countless kimbab places and Chinese places.

Also, check out the lunch specials. For example, Pasha the Turkish place is not cheap, but it has lunch specials, as do all the Indian places, which are very reasonable, in my definition of the word. Wonhalmoni Bossam also has lunch specials.
