So, you CAN get the visa if you have been to China before in the past few years?
Has anyone personally tried this? |
Yeah I got one in February with my ARC expiring in March. I went to my local Hanatour and they told me I needed two China visas in the last year, and I only had one, but I got a double entry tourist visa anyway, but maybe because I had multiple visas since 2005. |

I haven't been before. My visa documents are with the travel agents. I'll post up when I receive my passport back. |

Great thanks. I've actually heard the reason is people were coming from Korea and just living in China, then I guess making more visa runs back to Korea. But, if that is the reason, couldn't they still do that in all other SE Asian countries? |

I guess so. The annoying thing is those people have made it more difficult for those who want to move to China legally.
Has anyone moved straight from Korea to China recently? What did you have to do to get the Z visa? Is going via a third country the only way? |

Visa processed and received my passport. I used Kangsan travel. Quick, efficient, and totally hassle free. The only issue was it was a bit more expensive, but I'm happy to pay more if it eases the process. |

I'm using Zenith Travel now, but I wasn't too happy with the service. I have less than 6 months on my ARC, so my situation is a little more difficult.
The day after I had dropped off my documents at the Gangnam office, he emailed me to tell me I had to get the foreign registration certificate. After I had emailed him about my situation and asked him specifically what to bring, AND paid the extra 30,000 to rush everything.
Today, I went to Seoul Immigration at Omokgyo to get the Foreign Registration Certificate. (I had heard I could get it at my local gu office or dong office, but both had no idea what I was talking about.) Get off at Omokgyo Station (Line 5), exit 7.. walk straight for about 7 minutes until you get to the big T-intersection, then cross and Immigration is right there. Enter the building and on the left hand side right behind the Information Desk there is a small sign saying "Immigration Certificates." I didn't need to fill out any of the forms, just take a number (I waited less than 5 min) and hand over your ARC. It was 1,000 won per copy, which was printed out in less than a minute. |

I'm going to book a ticket directly from the airline, so how do I get the visa? Do I need to go to the Chinese Embassy? |

A little heads up on getting the visa. Travel agents will deal with it for you, but they tack on a fee. I called Xanadu in Itaewon, and they wanted 85,000. I called Unique Travel (also Itaewon) and they asked for 55,000. |

Just FYI, I helped a friend through the process of sending her passport through a visa courier company in Texas to get her Chinese tourist visa. It did take about a week and a half BUT the price really isn't bad. Even when you factor in fedex shipping to and from the States, it only comes to about $220. If you had more than 6 months on your ARC card and applied through the Chinese Embassy on Seoul, it'd still around $200. So if you have time, why not go that route.
If you need a recommendation for a visa courier company that you can trust, just pm me. I have an old friend that runs just such a company in Houston and he'll certainly do right by you. |

Your use of punctuation has confused me. What happened two months later? |

How long do you have on your ARC? My understanding is that if you have less than a month it can't be done. |

yeah, less than a month, though the travel agent cited the six month rule as the reason given by the embassy.
where'd you hear the one month rule?
it'd be nice if these various rules were clearly posted somewhere. |

The travel agent I went with asked me when I first contacted them about what I need to do to go with less than 6 months on my ARC. She said I could process a visa as long as I had longer than a month left. She didn't cite any rules, mind you. |

Ah, well, wish I had used your travel agent then. Could've saved me some hassle. Did you have to get that overpriced medical check? I did. And now it seems I won't be needing it. |
