A fair amount of this is due to Kim Ki-duk being one of the few internationally recognized directors. |

Some of the best movies have these themes, I'll bet you can find at least one classic Hollywood movie for any of these.
Maybe the first Korean movie I ever saw was "Sex is Zero", original with Thai subtitles (so I was basically clueless about the dialogue). It's a romantic comedy and the sperm omelette even surpasses the sperm hair gel scene from Something about Mary in terms of "yuck". |

Come on not at least one recommendation just a complaint.
I like Indian movies, but they sometimes have some dancing and singing at strange times.
I like American movies, but they sometimes have some disturbing themes like drugs, sex and violence. |
I saw the Devil, Mother, Old Boy, Memoirs of a murder (I think that's the title), Lady Vengeance.
How can drugs, sex and violence be more disturbing than incest, rape and sex with minors? |

And yes, it's disturbing. |

My favorite Korean movie is "Save the Green Planet!"
지구를 지켜라
Twisted, touching and unpredictable.
From IMDB:
| Quote: |
| A Tromatized young man abducts Korean leaders, believing they're toxic reptilian aliens - a fifth column launching a takeover of beloved Earth. Stumped law enforcement geniuses half-seriously hire a disgraced, disheveled private detective with a long-ago history of super-crime solving. The alienated South Korean youngster Lee Byeong-gu builds an isolated basement command post/torture chamber/film studio to force the awful truth out of the slimy, uncooperative politicians and businesspeople, then alert the public. Byeong-gu is helped by his devoted girlfriend, who buys his theories, but wonders if his horrible childhood has colored his thinking. |

Not the Housemaid I'm talking about. The one you saw was the remake
Check the original link. It was made in 1960- and the story was actually credible and there was more character development *COUGH COUGH BETTER STORY COUGH*

Yes, this is well worth watching. I really enjoyed it too.
To add to the list (sorry if they've been mentioned, I read other suggestions, but I might have missed them)... all very recent.
