My HS is pay-for-what-you-eat too.......as was my last HS.......I thought it was the norm. The cafeteria manageress just puts out a print of the staff list at the end of the buffet line so we can check against our names. That get collated each month then sent to the school accountant who deducts from our pay.
I thought all schools did this. It's pretty much a scam to charge you for everyday if you don't eat everyday. |
In all the schools I have worked at it's either by coupons (usually in tens), or put your money in a bucket before lunch. I too thought that was the norm, I guess not. Although on numerous occasions I've had free dinners when sneaking a meal with the high school kids at the cafeteria. |

northway, your lunches sound badass. i had battered boneless fish with a ginger sauce yesterday and that was awesome.
but sometimes they'll serve fish with about a million bones in them and takes you forever to get to the meat. ugh to that too. |
We'll see if it holds up, the new supplier has only been in place since the beginning of June. Before we used the crap cafeteria in our building and the kids/Korean staff agreed that it was mostly inedible. Now it's catered and I think they're actually saving money, but the quality has gone up dramatically. That said, I've been impressed enough to stop bringing lunches/eating out every day (and my coworkers finally believe me that I just hate bad cafeteria food, not Korean food at large). |

Another kindy perk: free lunches.
I don't really eat there that often, but when I do it's free. My faves are the ottogi lunches....either the curry one or the jajangmyun one. They do spaghetti with cream soup from time to time, as well as a barbequed chicken thing but it is pretty boney and not very meaty. I eat at school maybe once a week or so, the rest of the time i skip over to my apartment and eat leftovers or i will go out and grab something. |

My school's cafeteria is shutting down until December. The food wasn't great, but it was a hot meal that was only 2000 won.
I'll be packing my lunch henceforth, and, unfortunately, probably eating at my desk. |

| For the most part, the food where I work is tolerable. Once in a while it's horrible. On those days, I walk 5 minutes to the local Chinese restaurant and have noodles/black bean sauce. |

| I wonder if there's any good 'Chinese' places around, not Korean Chinese. There's an 'ok' Chinese buffet next to my uni, but that's about all I know of... |
