yeah, but the thing is, you can't get real mexican food in korea. sorry, but you just can't. taco bell is good and cheap and it isn't mexican food, but it's better than the other places that claim authenticity but fall short.

There's a place near the Krispy Kreme in Sinchon (hope it's still there). It's not perfect, but pretty close to Mexican. |
I don't know if it's near Krispy Kreme, but hopefully you're not talking about Choi's Tacos. Their salsa roja tasted like sweetened gochujang. |

You've got to be kidding me if you're referring to Chois' Tacos in Sinchon made by that Korean dude. Those are the nastiest tacos and burritos I've EVER tried, Japan included. You must be from England if you can stomach that crap. Socal born and raised here. |

I'm also from SoCal and I would add that there wasn't a single decent Mexican place, let alone authentic, in all of Korea. |

| Choi's Tacos is some pretty rancid stuff - Tastes like bird crap mixed with some gochujang wrapped in a stale tortilla shell. |

I tried the Taco Bell at Itaewon and I thought it was pretty bad. I've tried Taco Bell on base and it was a lot better.
Anyway, if you guys haven't tried Tomatillo's, you should def give it a go. They had the best food in the category so far for me. It's near YP books in Jongro/Jonggak. It's goooooooood.
Who brought up Choi's Tacos? How did that place even get into this discussion. I thought that place was really bad. |

i went ahead and tried this place.
the corn tortillas did in fact seem fresh (if a bit doughy tasting).
they are tiny, as real street tacos should be, but not as filled with meat. the meat had a nice texture but was nearly flavorless, overpowered by onion and cilantro due to the incorrect proportion of ingredients.
also, when i ordered, in korean, two tacos (5000w) from the young worker, he quoted me the price for two burritos (9000w). after correcting him several times, he finally got my order straight. in english or konglish, "tacos" and "burritos" sound totally different. i guess most koreans order burritos.
admirable effort but still falls quite short. i grant this place the following title, "the most authentic LOOKING tacos i've yet seen in seoul"
re: king's truck...very good carnitas taco. but 4000 for a street taco? ouch. that's like paying $8 for a chamchee kimbap or $10 for a restaurant bottle of soju back home. think about it. would you do that?
re: tomatillo. they have a carnitas torta for their chef's special this week. this was surprisingly GREAT. unfortunately they used processed cheese slices, but this took nothing away from the taste and was purely an aesthetic black eye. i'd just order it w/o cheese. 9000 won and includes a horchata. i'll go ahead and say this one is worth it.
yes, i eat too much bad mexican/texmex/cali-mex/taco bell in seoul. what can i say, i didn't go home this year.
it's still taco bell for me. |

The Three Kings Truck carnitas beat the crap out of anything Taco Bell has to serve, and I'm not someone who bashes Taco Bell.
I was rather impressed with Taco Man. The ajossi was there both times I went, and he speaks English well, so I didn't have an issues. Service aside, I found them to be really good by the low standards set here. I did find the salsa to be way over the top, however, and I generally don't have any issues with heat. My dining companions found the same to be true, and they were a mix of Koreans and hot sauce loving Westerners. When I went back the second time I asked him to lay off and I found that there was a lot more going on than I was able to taste the first time. Regardless, I really dig the tortillas. |

Not singling you out or anything. Just had an epiphany relevant to your comment.
We should be happy that we get to whine about how crappy all of the Mexican restaurants are except for insert favorite here. Ten years ago, the only options were Pancho's and whatever crazy concoctions fusion restaurants threw together, including but not limited to orange slices in nachos. They might've been selling cheese nachos at the movie theaters, don't really recall.
Personally, I don't think any of the places are particularly good, but neither are they particularly bad. I'm from the east coast so am used to sloppy, sauce-covered entrees, so my standards are accordingly lower. I think I'd rate Dos Tacos slightly above the others based on burrito, but recently got into tacos after discovering that Tomatillo does a decent one - way better than their burritos, at least. |

Reading about all of this Mexican food makes it hard for a guy to stick to a diet.
I really want Mexican food for lunch.
I'll probably stick with my fish, broccoli and sweet potato. |

every san diego taco shop serves that...but of course way tastier. i will admit that tomatillo's version is like methadone for my heroin addiction, though. everyone should try it. |
