The other day during my second grade English class, the (male) second grade Korean teacher playfully bit a few students on the face. I know it sounds creepy when put that way, but it really wasn't; he walked up to them and said, "Speak only English!" in a monsterous play-voice if they spoke in Korean, then kind of feigned monster-attacked them. The kids loved it, it made the class fun, and it reinforced a teacher-student bond.
I think there's a real, discernable difference between something like sexual abuse, and something that's just playful, bond-reinforcing physical contact. I'm not naturally a very touchy person either so it's hard for me to really embrace, but having seen the positive results, it's hard for me to take issue with it. |
