I organized about three a few years back and only showed up to one...haha. However, I have become good friends with one person I met from here, and not at a hang-out.

To those that have attended, so what does one talk about at one of those Dave's meet-ups? I have this fear that everyone would be staring at each other awkwardly saying things like, "Man, that search function sure does suck!" or "Did you see that thread about dating Korean chicks?"

Stuff.

I'd say 20% board whining and 80% normal conversation. Though the way it is now, everyone would be too smooth to utter a word, I'd reckon.

It took me a bit to figure that out. IT's like when i first saw DH (dear husband). I didn't get the memo on these abbreviations. Very Happy

why do i get the feeling that 95% of the posters here, if you spoke to them IRL at a get together, they'd be cordial and mild mannered- unlike their tough internet personas.

I'm pretty friendly IRL, unless I don't like the first impression you give me; If I deem us incompatible I just ignore you.

Because that's what happens. Almost everybody that comes to these things is slightly nerdy, slightly goofy, rather intelligent and extremely tame. It's harmless, but a bit geeky.

The jerks and Adonises all stay home and snicker, everyone else makes connections, new friends, whatevs.

I organized a few but stopped because it's not terribly easy. People whine about the area, the location, the city, how dorky we are, etc. And finding a bar to house so many was a lot easier back in the day.

There are definitely some posters here who I'd like to meet. I'd bring whatever weapon is used to defeat trolls.

I actually think "I wonder if this person posts on Daves" whenever I see or meet another foreigner while out and about. I am vain so I wonder if they are equally curious about me.
I don't believe I have met any other posters. I think it might be too late now.

Yeah, I went to a couple way back in the day (including the first I think) and that pretty much sums up what it was like. Hard to believe it was around 8 years ago, mon dieu!
