Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered before. Does anyone have a Nonghyup card that allows you to pay for things overseas? I know KEB has been recommended but that means I would have to take a day off work and travel to Seoul during the week.
Thank you. |

Oi, I have a question about the International Debit Card technique to send money.
Is there a large fee when your 'trusted person' withdraws money from an ATM or is it the standard rate? |

HI!
Steve
NH does not allow foreigners access to their money when they are out of the country. |

Another hands up for KEB. You can send money transfers very easily overseas online through their website. You can find the English speaking branches on their website.
KB won't allow foreigners to send money overseas online.
KEB is catered to foreigners for banking. |

I haven't left the states yet, but I did notice that Citibank is all over the place there (at least atms). Are there branches where I can do banking (i.e. open up a Korean acct. and transfer between my U.S. and Korean one)? I'm currently with Bank of America, but I am trying to minimize as many headaches as I can for sending money overseas before I go, as I envision I would be running into similar problems as the OP. |

I'm not with citibank but from what I have heard, no you can't. Citibank here and citibank america are citibanks in name only.
I'm with worri and and I have no problems transferring to NZ |

Sorry I'm late...
So, yeah, it is a bit of a story:
I just tried to send money home from citibank in Korea. Like the previous poster I thought that going with a US bank would eliminate some stress and hassles. One of the things that CitiBank guarantees back home is that there will be a person who speaks English at every branch in the world.
All of the reasons I had for using citiBank have not only blown up in my face but I have reasons now to stay away from them. I will be opening an account at a different bank this month, and changing everything over to them.
CitiBank has lied to me all day today telling me that I must sign an exclusive agreement with them to only use them for transferring money.
The details of this have varied:
It's the same for everyone, Korean and foreigners.
It's is only for foreigners.
It is only for Americans.
It for ANY international bank anywhere in the world.
It is ONLY in Korea.
It is for any international transfer of money ANYWHERE.
It is for any transfer to the US from ANYWHERE.
It is an AMERICAN law.
But the one consistent thing is: It is a Korean Law, and I must do it to transfer money.
I went to the ATM, took out 300won and went to Woori Bank and transfered the money in under 15min. Had lunch. And then took the reciept with a copy of the form to CitiBank. Demanded to talk to someone in English (since no one was there who could) and then was give the "Its a law speech" by someone who seemed pretty capable to handle the conversation in English.
After defending the FACT that is wasn't, I was told this again, to which I replied that I will be closing my accounts and going elsewhere soon.
Sorry for the rant, but people should know to stay away.
I will copy and post this in a new thread, but wanted to post this here so people could find it easier. |
