... That's what it was, not what it "felt like." |

What, you mean with introducing the characters and the history and whatnot? Odd. |

Well yeah. It's part 1 of 7. |

| Really enjoyed Game of Thrones myself and Boardwalk too, although Boardwalk felt more like an appetiser for the next 1-2 seasons to follow, especially the Al Capone storyline. |

I loved the pacing of GoT. Being one of the many "The Wire" boxset bullies on this board, I'm used to and prefer a slower boil.
Game of Thrones is to Spartacus as The Wire is to CSI, maybe? |

| I know that it was part 1 of 7, but my point, which was not clearly made, was that I don't feel it stood on it's own. Lord of the Rings was an introduction, but stood on its own as a movie, while it set up what was to come. For me, because I have not read the novels, I feel that it was very confusing, but still watchable. |

I think I have just accepted that True Blood is campy chick lit. It's so much better than last season just bearing that in mind. Also, I read the first book, and comparatively, the series is frickin' Citizen Kane. I don't think I willsubject myself to the remainder of the series in literature form. :/
I tried to watch Game of Thrones, but it looked like nerd porn. My husband says it's good, though.
I don't think it's so much that HBO has gone down hill, but network and cable TV have both really upped the ante on creative programming. A lot of basic cable shows feel provocative sans boobs and the F-bomb. |

They kind of nerd-porned it up when they took it to television, but the sex is more heard about than seen in the books. It's disappointing, but I think HBO chose to go in that direction due to the success of True Blood. |
