My girlfriend and I are in a similar situation. We applied to GEPIK through a program at our university that sends around 40 graduates every September. The director of the program informed us last Friday that our materials would be in at the end of this week and the visa process would follow. She briefly mentioned, and I quote, "Also you may hear from people in Korea that schools have no money. For some reason that makes little sense to me, many schools are not able to renew their TTGs who are already there. However, this does not affect any of you."
While it seems like good news that our contracts are being sent back, I'm not entirely convinced by the rest. If the worst should happen and our contracts fall through, what could we do? We are very set on teaching in Korea and would like to get there ASAP.

| And by "what could we do", I mean how would we go about getting our background checks and everything else back. There's got to be a way around redoing that whole 3 month process. |

This makes no sense. Why would schools without funds spend more on recruiting and flying over an unknown newbie ,when they could simply renew their existing FT for no extra cost? |

I believe renewing a NET (under GEPIK) costs the school a renewal bonus, a 14 day vacation, a round trip flight home, and possibly a raise.
These costs can add up but they probably are worth it compared to getting a "dud" teacher that will pull a runner. |

| With an F4 you have plenty of options if GEPIK falls through. In fact, you have nothng but advantages. |

| Any recommendations as to what my next move should be if everything falls apart then? It seems as if Hagwons are my only other recourse. |

| Since you already have your ticket, just fly here. You'll find a job in a week or so. They love hiring people already in Korea.. They get to meet you, and best of all, you get to meet them. This pretty much assures that you won't end up at some crappy hagwon. BTW.. hakwons are much better than PS. You work less hours for the same pay! |

A Korean friend of mine called the school. They cancelled my contract and everything. I knew this was going to happen. Not even in Korea yet and a school is effing me over.
This is total bull. |

The SCHOOL is dealing with the BUDGET CUT from the PROGRAM.
What were their options?
Pool the staff to fly you over, pay you and house you?
Too bad this happened but at least you got some notice and can now turn around and secure other employment (in Korea or elsewhere). |

Decent option but he/she will need an outbound ticket of some sort to be let into Korea on a tourist visa.
He or she may also need extra documents for a new visa and in some cases may need to do this from his or her home country if this is his or her first visa.
The visa in his passport from his canceled job is no longer valid.
As for finding work locally, it is indeed a good plan. Still, make sure to bring a bit mor cash to house and feed yourself as you look for work. Also try to scout a few areas ahead of time and line up some schools to visit when you land. |

I'm just trying to figure out how the hell I went through this entire process and they are just now are realizing they can't afford to pay people. |

Welcome to the world of inefficient bureaucracy in Korea. |

That's what I'm talking about.

Check out the job postings on Dave's or on WorknPlay. There are some after school positions that only hire F visa holders.
That's just one idea. I wasn't an F visa holder, so I don't know all your options. |

If the school has your documents, I believe you can have them send them back to you.
As for background checks, I'd get more than one as precaution. You only need one set of prints done, but you can select how many CBC reports you want. |
