I was reading the Atlantic article (did any of you bother to read it?) and it mentioned that we would need the plentiful nearby Chinese ships to evacuate us as the US military would be unable to do so (all the US ships would be busy with the war effort). Question is - would they do so?

As both an Eagle Scout (Be Prepared) and former American Red Cross Disaster Services worker, I always like to have all my bases covered whenever possible. Just contemplating different scenarios, that's all.

Short answer is NO.

If there is a war between the Koreas - China would be obligated under bilateral defense treaties (existing since 1953) to assist in the defense of N.Korea (so you can bet that the Chinese ships will more likely be used to assist in an invasion landing of S.Korea than the evacuation of Americans.

.

Actually the last thing NK will want is for China to honor its pact. With geopolitical realities what they are, the Norks would be terrified to let in 1,000,000 Chinese soldiers. Why? Because then the Chinese could quickly and easily get rid of Dear Leader and install their own puppet.

If a war begins 1/3rd of NKs army strength will be spent guarding the Chinese border against mass refugees/defectors and to watch out for the Chinese themselves.

I'm sure if you're an American working for a Chinese owned firm you'd be able to finagle passage somehow.

I came across an article in The Atlantic recently regarding American citizen evacuation in the event of an attack by the North Koreans. Do you think we could count on the Chinese to employ their ships in order to evacuate us?

Absolutely - Chinese ships will be deployed to evacuate anyone willing to go!

It's actually a very short boat ride over to their re-education camps. You're going to love it. The food is to die for! Dress = casual, red is a good color.

You must know nothing about history, politics, government, etc. Boy scouts don't learn common sense?

Do you know who the Korean war was fought against? Do you know why the war resulted in a stalemate with the current borders? Do you know anything at all about the foreign policy of the Chinese or their system of government? I cannot believe that a literate person who reads the newspapers would not know that China was communist and therefore aligned with the North.

China and North Korea aligned and still align because they share a similar strategic vision. Their bizarre interpretations of communism come a distant second. In fact North Korea has always been closer to Stalinism than Maoism.

Also I don't think its such a crazy idea that China would put its role as global power first and aid in any humanitarian effort.

I mean if all out war were to break out (highly unlikely) it would demonstrate that China had lost control of its property. I can't imagine the Chinese being too keen on sacrificing anything for the benefit of the Kim's, at least not without a Mao character in place.

The Brave and Heroic People's Military Forces will, at every turn seek to embody the sayings of their Great Leader. There is no need to depend upon the boot-kissing lackies and Capitalist Running Dogs in Washington or their Wall Street Overlords in New York. Instead put your faith in the Rising Proletariat and the ultimate victory of the Workers.

Yeah? Well then I have some good news for you: you will be glad to know that the US Embassey has finally identified the rally point for an evacuation in the case of war or disaster.

Now the bad news: How long can you tread water?

The best test of the legitimacy of a government is freedom of information. China fails that test miserably. They fail because their government is run by tyrants.

Let's just say for a second that if China was bound to defend North Korea, then that would make it at war with the USA.

What would happen to all that money that the USA owes them? Written off? Too bad, so sad for China?
