You can't notarise an original certificate because a notary can only certify that a copy is a true copy of the original, so for an original certificate they have nothing to compare it to. Of course I've heard rumours about crooked lawyers, but I don't believe it, they're known to be such upstanding citizens...

Disclosure Scotand will tell you that they are under a huge amount of pressure at the moment as they're dealing with the implementation of the new PVG system. Their security guard will sigh, hawk into a paper cup, and tell you that they're all a bunch of incompetant f*"&$ards who shouldn't be allowed within fifty feet of anything as dangerous as a piece of paper. I wouldn't like to be the one to judge.

Over the last ten years I have had about three million disclosure certificates issued to me, so here are my words of advice:

Your emails will vanish like mist in the morning sun. Only a phone call will be of any benefit, and even then only a phone call to the duty manager. A little bit of shouting and/or crying, and a liberal sprinkling of the words �furious�, �time-critical�, and �broken society� often helps.

If you're close enough to Glasgow you can demand to pick the signed and stamped certificate up from their office (they don't like this, but will allow in an emergency). If you do take this option though, DO NOT leave the premises without checking that they've given you what they said they'd give you. And say hi to the security guard for me.

It took me over a month, and I lost my contract by then, otherwise I would have been in korea by now.
